Anderson is the consensus opinion for #1 spot. But there seems to be a lot of candidates for #2. Some say Franklin. Some say Hendo. Some say Belfort. Some even say Weidman or Romero.

    What do YOU say?

Henderson for sure, But if Adesanya wins this he may be undisputed # 2.

Hendo is by far the most accomplished at #2... *** only time will tell for Israel but if he ever got Jones .... and won, sheet.

    Ya that's solid data. Kudos.

And that's one major problem with divisional GOAT conversations; ome of the best fighters fought in multiple divisions.

There's an idea for a thread; who's the best fighter across 2 or 3 divisions (that isn't #1 in any one division)?

There is no clear number 2.

The Middle weight division had/has a lot of great talent come through over the years. The thing is Anderson Silva has held the belt for a very long time. Since he's lost it, its been passed around a couple of times.

Most accomplished at MW though? Some guy linked his MW record on the thread linked above and it doesn't look so great.

As a huge Belfort fan for 22 years, I have never seen anyone claim he is the #2 greatest MW, and it would be impossible to make that a reasonable argument (and I suspect anyone putting him anywhere near there must be considering his career success as a whole rather than just MW success)

I think it has to be Weidman or Franklin. People can narrate or revisionist history all they want, but at the end of the day these two have the most UFC MW title wins outside of Silva. Weidman did so against some pretty damn stiff competition, even if he did have a hard fall from grace after.

    Him or Randy.

But now we're back to Hendo, who has a GP at 185, a Pride MW belt after a Wandy, and wins over Fedor & Big Nog. It gets less impressive the further you dig (e.g. your stats on 185, Wandy was sick, Fedor was old and Big Nog was a gift of a judges decision). But still ;)

    Anyway, this thread successfully hijacked.

I tend to lean toward Mousasi.

Vitor in his TRTor form is also among the GOAT MW's to ever step on the canvas.
In terms of Greatest MW fighters by capability (AKA BOAT LIST),

    1.Silva
    2.Mousasi
    3.TRTor/Weidman
    5.Hendo

In terms of accomplishments (AKA GOAT LIST)

    1.Silva
    2.Mousasi
    3.Hendo

If its between Weidman or Franklin, then it has to be Weidman. Franklin's title wins overall might include the worst competition in UFC history outside of WMMA and pre-zuffa era.

I think you are being a bit tough on Franklin, but indeed his level of competition was not great and I do personally think Weidman is the #2 MW of all time. I do think guys like Romero, Adesanya and Whittaker would beat Ace in his prime, but I don't consider ATG a competition of prime vs prime, but rather of accomplishments/dominance over the division of their day. Simply put nobody has Ace's accomplishments outside of Silva/Weidman.
