Who is stronger?

In my opinion, Marunde is an ideal athlete. He is strong, fast, powerful, and has great conditioning. Marunde did compete in weightlifting and I believe he clean and jerked 185kg and snatched 150kg. He squats and deadlifts well over 600 lbs. He can do 20 rep squats with 405 lbs. He has exceptional grip strength (closed CoC #3 at the age of 18). He is also at a reasonable size to be quick and agile (comparatively speaking).

lmao are you serious? lb for lb powerlifters are obese motherfuckers

not all powerlifters, they have lighter weight classes you know. I competed at 170lbs

even in the heavier classes there are some guys who are pretty damn lean.

as has been said:

basing this off the top athletes in their respective fields, in a huge generalization:
powerlifters generate the most force
oly lifters generate the most power
strongmen are the best at combining strength, power, and endurance.

I think that a guy in the gym can beat everyone up, including all the men who are strong

Big_Joey via "partial ROM" armbar...

Olympic weight lifters are the strongest. They have the ability to move the most weight raw. Strongmen probably are the strongest functionally. Meaning they can move heavy things or throw stuff around.

Oly lifters are the "strongest", but powerlifters are the strongest "functionally"?

What the fuck does that mean?

I think he got that from the Professor Frank pamphlet that came in the mail.

And by "mail", Lusst means under your windshield wiper at teh mall.

If "Just Frank" is a professor, then I'm kickin Di Capprio's ass and takin his spot as "king of the world."

In terms of the accepted definitions of strength and the related concepts, Olympic lifters are not the strongest; they are the most powerful given the specific nature and relevant execution of their lifts.

From a technical perspective, Powerlifters (who should be called Strength lifters) lift the most weight off of the ground. As such the title of strongest, (though dependent on your interpretation, coupled with what you place your value in) goes to Powerlifters because they lift the most weight.

Most weight lifted = strongest

Definitely depends what's being asked...for overall strength (ie force, endurance, power) I'd go with the strongmen, who are trained for well-rounded competition and have a greater range of motion required than do pro and olympic lifters.

You gotta be kidding me, ly lifters have great ROM

The reason I said that Oly lifters were stronger then power lifters is because powerlifters often wear suits that can give them a huge advantage in what they do. A bench suit can add several hundred pounds to a lifters lift. As far as Strongmen being the most functionally strong, what I meant by that was they have the best ability to apply their strength to different objects. For instance while a Oly lifter may be able to squat 700 pounds then are not able to apply it to different things as easily as a Strongman. A Strongman is able to apply their strength to a number of different challenges.

That's precisely why a differentiation is noted between a raw lift, vs a suited lift.

Also, several hundred pounds being added to one's suited lift, is far from the norm, given that many lifters experience only 50 lb differences.

I don't mean to split hairs, but if the question becomes one of function, I'm compelled to ask, what is more functional than simply picking up a weight, ie: a deadlift, or on the other end of the functional spectrum, kicking an opponents ass....After all, your criteria is that function is the primary determining factor.

As such, the most functional strength title goes to one of the the following:

1. Powerlifters given that they pick up the most weight off of the ground (deadlift the most weight.)

2. FedorEmelianenko, given that from the perspective of expressing strength in varying planes, etc, he can functionally can kick anyone's ass .

Didn't want to split hairs, but you asked for it...
