Who is Meerschaert?

Because Khamzat is all the latest rage? Look around you bro, would people be talking about Meerschaert if he wasn't fighting Khamzat?

Well, I've talked about him with others on here before khamzat was even in the UFC, so I guess so?

He would have broke into the rankings if he won his last fight. He recently had that fight with DC's midget too and finished him.

My point is that all the doubt you have in meerschaert should be placed on khamzat instead since he's the far less proven fighter of the two.

All the UFC hype jobs have been losing lately. Bet the house on Gerald.

Everytime I see his name I think of this...

Meerschaert has a lot of finishes on hos record bit also a lot of sub and ko losses. He reminds me of Jason MacDonald; crafty veteran with good submissions. I expect him to put up a good fight, i'm not really sold on fighters like Khamzat who are so young into their careers

Gm3 is a sub grappler. Slow on the feet though. Khazmat might outstrike him or stick to his bread and butter which will play into geralds strength.

Meershart has a 1% chance of winning. Basically a lucky punch then sub. He is a can and will get crushed by the new Goat

It wasn't mean to be literal. Certainly he hasn't garnered the type of hype/attention that Khamzat has.

It's not really doubt, it's more like I just don't know anything about him. I'm just asking for input on the guy.

he struggled against 4'3 mw deron "I never" winn. that's enough to know that he is a (fighter bashing)

*that he is a bum. fuck sherdog why u don't let me bash fighters without carding? freedom of speech.

Yeah I didn't even know this guy existed until recently.

Here is my analysis:

Gerald Meerschert is 32 years old, almost 33 years old. Allegedly 6'1 with an allegedly 77 inch reach, he trains out of Duke Roufus' gym. He is a blackbelt is "kickboxing" apparently, and a blackbelt in BJJ. That doesn't mean much to me.

In the regional scene he amassed a 25-8 record, splitting 1-1 with Sam Alvey notably. He has a ton of ~regional pro fights, 33.

He made it into the UFC in 2016, beating two guys I've never heard of then getting KO'd by Thiago Santos. Then beat Eric Spicely and a guy I've never heard of, then lost to Jack Hermansson and Derek Holland by split decision. Then beat another guy I've barely heard of, then lost to Eryk Anders? by split. Then beat Derron Winn, then got KO'd by Henisch.

So to break it down succinctly: He's a journeyman. His best win is either Sam Alvey 10 years ago on the regional scene, Eric Spicely, or an inflated 155er Deron Winn fighting at 185. He has been finished by anyone we'd consider good, and he has lost to some no name level guys in the UFC. He's 6-5 in the UFC.

This is pretty much the perfect matchup for Khazmat. If Hazmat can't beat Meerkat then he is a hype job very likely who just looked great against cans. If he destroys Mererschaert then that kind of puts up in the company of Santos/Henisich/Hermansson as the only ones to do it in the UFC, therefore proving Khazmat will likely be a top 5-10 guy very soon.

As time goes by, there's more fighters that I'm unfamiliar with. I looked him up but want some input from my Sherbros.

Records can be deceiving. Is this guy good enough to make this a compelling fight? As in, does he have a real decent chance of winning?

Assign a % value to the likelihood of him winning (according to you). For example 50% means it's a tossup, 60% means he's a slight favorite.

Anyone favoring Meerschaert?
I'm favoring Khamzat but Meerschaert has a fair chance at winning I reckon. He has some tools that can finish the fight for sure; power and submissions. I don't see him winning via submission, however, against Chimaev unless he stuns Chimaev first. More likely I can see him winning by catching him on the feet. I just feel it to be the less likely scenario when compared to Chimaev grounding him repeatedly and battering him with offense for 15 minutes to earn a decision. Meerschaert will have a power advantage and have some size, but his biggest weakness in my opinion is his wrestling which I feel is Khamzat's biggest strength. I'd give Meetschaert a respectable 35% chance at winning as I still feel there are too many unanswered questions about Chimaev. I'm excited to see more of Chimaev as an intriguing prospect but it would be a neat story if Meerschaert wins this. I'm kind of impressed with this matchmaking, which is rare for me with regard to UFC matchmaking these days.
