Andrei Arlovski. He is talking about why he brought Andrei back.

Ahh that makes sense, it sounded like it was someone recent leaving!

I was like hmmm... that would be pretty fucking incredible for someone on a winning streak to leave the UFC given the fact that PRIDE, Strikeforce, Affliction, etc. are all gone. Practically unfathomable.

Dana losing Arlovski is the first and, I believe, only time that he has ever come out and publicly apologized for mistreating one of his fighters.

He said he was going to fix it with Andrei, but I think AA said he felt too disrespected, and didn't even want to negotiate.

He got put on the undercard for his last fight, and he thought the UFC was intentionally trying to get him to lose to a wrestler.

I think that he had also tried to re-negotiate his contract with them, but the UFC didn't bite. Think it was after the Pe de Pano fight, iirc...

I think he was concerned that Dana was going to frame him for the attempted murder of Jake O'Brien :icon_chee

A quote from Dana a those years agai:

    "Andrei is on the bench".

They just kept him sidelined despite not being injured and he was legitimately the number 1 contender when he left.

When he left, Randy had the belt and there was no reason for not making a Randy vs. Arlovski fight.

Randy trained with Andrei and said "he hits like a mac truck".

Pretty much the main reason Randy Andrei didn't go down was UFC was making room for Brock to enter the title scene.

Affliction had an amazing offer for him at the time, i think that was what led to his departure, re-negotiating with the UFC at the time would've been border line stupid

    He was the original Fitch/Okami

He'd been in some stinkers near the end of his run, and he was making a lot of money, doesn't help that at the time there was somewhere to go.

Same reason Tim left right after losing the title bout to Nog. Tim got 1 million dollars for 1 fight in Affliction. He would have to fight 10 times in the UFC to make that.

Dan and Werdum also left for more money.

Yeah but in all honesty if Tim had offered to fight for free at that point I don't think Dana would have gone for it. Does anybody else remember how dull it was to watch him fight. People who play on the boos i.e Kos and Nick Diaz could not get a negative reaction like Tim could in his prime. And this was before booing became fashionable.

On another note, anyone else notice that AA has fought 3 times a year for the past 3 years.

Has any UFC HW done that?

I just don't get why top UFC fighters don't fight more.

Werdum was on a sick winstreak and got KO'd by JDS then they tried to renegotiate and put him on way less cash than he was earning.

    Kind of....
He had lost recently to Arlovski in the UFC.
Also lost to Big Nog and Sergei in Pride.

He had decent wins, don't know about a "sick win streak".

Some of these losses are forgotten because they put a massive dent into the 'Fedor didn't fight top competition' argument.

Rather humorous that Arlovski was thinking O'Brien was his opponent because the UFC was trying to get Arlovski to lose; a runner up at the sambo world championships thinking an average college wrestler is being used to derail him.
Both guys weren't treated very well in regards to placement of that fight, after all, in O'Brien's previous fight he did beat Herring and Herring was fighting on the same card, right before the main event.
