Gil or Benson or Pettis? It might be Gil right now. I don't think Pettis will be same again after all these injuries.

In my opinion, Benson Henderson. Of all time is still BJ Penn.

Interesting. I would go with Melendez.

Pettis' game revolves around his accuracy & agility. Injuries will slow him down, where as Grappling oriented fighters could LnP or wall & stall if their bodies are too banged up yet can still pull a win.

I think Henderson. Maybe he can't beat Pettis but he can beat everyone else. I don't think Pettis can beat the guys Henderson is beating. Not like we'll ever know

Petis has the title and beat Benson twice. Gil has a chance to claim it next year, till then its Pettis.

Just to point this out, Pettis has yet to fight any of the Wrestlers/Sambo Guys in the light weight division other than Henderson. He fought Guida, Stephens, Lauzon, and Cerrone before his title shot.

Styles make fights, and until I see Pettis beat guys like Thomson, Melendez, Nurmagomedov, or other grappling based fighters I am unconvinced he is the best in the lightweight division.

as a Man once said "He may be the champion, but I am the Best" I do not believe Pettis is the best in the division, Only champion due to his road to the belt being favorable to him and circumstances.

Pretty much this imo, Pettis is a beast and a nasty finisher but Bendo seems comfortable against a more diverse range of opponents

Pettis
Bendo
Thomson
Gil
Edgar

I'm saying Edgar because he's a proven quantity at LW and capable of hanging with anyone.
Wouldn't mind seeing him back at LW.

Pettis or Khabib watch out for Aldo if he moves up though. :icon_chee

McGregoat.

Other than that. In the wise words of a whitebelt a few posts up..'the guy with the belt'
anything else is an opinion.

Bendo absoutely 100% lost that fight to Josh Thomson who broke his hand in the first round. Another case of awful judging. No way Bendo is #1.

I still think the best lightweight fighter today is Frankie Edgar, BJ Penn is the best LW ever, and Bendo is up there but if Frankie comes back at LW he can still put up wins now that Bendo doesn't have the belt

Tenacious, "Motivated", Ninja BJ

Technically Speaking I would say Benson Henderson would be my pick out of all of them currently, although I do feel Thomson and Melendez both beat Henderson, in the record book he has cleared out the Division more than Pettis has.

I think Henderson has the potential to be doing a whole lot better, but in his recent fights he seems content in just doing enough.

I liked the way he fought against Edgar in their first fight, when he was still a hungry contender and beat the piss out of Edgar the whole fight. After winning the belt he has turned into a "I do enough to win fights" and not enough of a "I decicevly go for a win, whether it beat my opponent for 25 minutes or until he gives up"

This is likely true, but Pettis has the belt in the deepest division in the history of MMA.

As of right now, Pettis is #1.
