As per the thread title, after the 3 fights between Cain and JDS, who do you classify as the "better stand up" fighter/striker?

My vote clearly goes to Cain. Cain has excellent combinations, head movement, kicks, knees, dirty boxing, clinch. You name it. He keeps his hands up and in my opinion, is a bit faster than JDS.

JDS has that one punch power, but we all saw that that one punch power will not ever land on Cain when he is moving backwards. JDS keeps his hands too low and got cracked many many times in both the 2nd and 3rd fights. JDS laughed that Cain hits like a girl, even though Cain dropped him in the 2nd fight and dropped him several times in the third fight. In the 3rd round, the referee should have stopped the fight. Thus, this removes the whole "Cain has pillow fists" or "Cain hits like a girl" arguments. Cain has power and to TKO JDS like that means something.

I think Cain has the best striking in the HW division and with his relentless forward pace, no one will ever outstrike him in the octagon.

I think in a pure kick boxing/boxing fight, Cain would still beat JDS just because JDS does not do good moving backwards and Cain coming relentlessly forward.

Anyways, who do YOU think has the better striking?

this is a funny question - i still think jds has better striking - he was throwing nice shots late into the fight - cain has his cardio and relentless style with mainly simple 1-2 punches while coming forward - its very effective

TS's next thread: Who would you rather take it up the ass from: Cain or JDS?

JDS is the better striker. Cain mixes his wrestling and clinching with his strikes so well that Junior never really gets a chance to strike .

He didn't tko him with punches so I don't see What that has to do with his punching power

JDS easily. cain would have been silly to stand in the centre of the octagon against JDS from the start, i can almost guarantee that he would have been knocked out cold

Can we get a poll to see which one has the better wrestling?

Cain would always close that distance though, even in a boxing or kickboxing match. JDS is better at fighting from a distance but Cain will remove that distance. JDS needs distance to wing his punches but Cain won't give him that in any type of striking match.

JDS is the better striker, if it were a stand up only fight I would definitely favour Junior.

TS wamps. And I've just begun to realise, though I enjoy analysing things in this way, it really serves little purpose in an MMA discussion and can actually be quite misleading. Still, JDS for me if we're talking 'pure' striking. Just as Jon Jones has better pure wrestling than Gus despite being 'outwrestled' in the few small grappling moments in their fight. JDS has been training striking for longer, its his bread and butter. Still, that's not to discredit Cain's standup. He's genuinely really good.

EDIT: I'd like to correct my 'TS wamps' to 'TS IS wamp' after reading more of his posts here.

"better" is just such a lousy term to compare striking in MMA. Too many factors to try and boil it down into simply one or the other (better or worse). What makes ones striking "better" is how they apply it to the fight and how much success they have with it.

Cain had success applying his striking, style, and gameplan to JDS more than JDS could do to him.

JDS has demonstrated his striking prowess in far more bouts and done it against opponents widely considered excellent strikers.

If I had to have the striking of either guy, I'd want JDS striking.

JDS, Cain is much better in the clinch and striking from there. In a boxing match or kickboxing match JDS would work him
