So first off I'd like to start this post off with a disclaimer:
I know Mark Hunt has power, I also know he is very skilled in the art of striking, proven mainly on the K1 stage.
Now that is out of the way, let me share my actual argument here:
It seems as of late that there is a growing ignorance and fanboy approach to supporting Mark Hunt. The obvious widespread dislike for Lesnar is probably a catalyst for this, but even beforehand there seems to be this notion that he can just walk through everyone on the feet.
I personally think Hunt is overrated in the sport of MMA.
See below why:
How many "elite" fighters has Mark Hunt knocked out? - 0 is the answer.
Dan Bobish via Body Kick - Do body kicks count? plus Bobish was a Pro Wrestler, who essentially was a can.
Yōsuke Nishijima via Punch - A man with a totally padded KB record and went 0-5 in MMA. CAN!
Tsuyoshi Kohsaka via Punches - Kohsaka was middle-low tier fighter, lost 7 times to strikes before.
Chris Tuchscherer via Punch - Do I even need to go into this?
Cheick Kongo via Punch - Top 10-15 fighter, but in my opinion always overrated and had questionable chin.
Stefan Struve via Punch - Top 15-20 fighter, glass chin, terrible fight IQ and striking defense.
Roy Nelson via Punch - Top 10-13 fighter, deserves credit for this one.
Antonio Silva via Punch - Top 15-20 fighter, completely shot, off of TRT and looks like a certified can in 2016
Frank Mir via Punch - Top 15 fighter, completely shot, always had a questionable chin.
Summary:
Fact of the matter is he knocked out 1 guy in the top 10 and he knocked out 1 guy with a great chin.
He hasn't knocked out any elite MMA fighters.
He himself has been knocked out by guys who supposedly cannot strike - Werdum.
He was knocked dead by a Middleweight - Manhoef.
To my memory, he was actually LOSING! to Struve standing, before the KO.
In my opinion, we all need to slow down... the man was a world class, legendary, kickboxer. He is a good MMA fighter - simples.
