Who had the most difficult run to a title shot?

Thiago Silva
Tito
Sokoudjou
Nakamura
Heath
Hoger

Tito was still relevant, sokoudjou was a big pride name, t. silva is and was a monster, heath was a good water testing fight. A six fight ufc streak is rare to get a title shot these days.

Last challenger by division:
HW: JDS (streak: 1 win.)
LHW: Glover (streak: 5 ufc wins)
MW: anderson (streak: 1 loss)
WW: Lawler vs Hendricks (streaks: 3 wins vs 1 loss)
LW: Pettis (streak: 3 wins)
FW: Lamas (streak: 4 wins)
BW: Dillashaw (streak: 1 win)
FlW: Joe B (streak: 3 wins)
WBW: McMann (streak: 1 ufc win)

Next challengers:

HW: Werdum (streak: 4 wins)
LHW: Gus/DC (streaks: 1 win/4 ufc wins)
MW: Machida (streak: 2 wins)
WW: Rory/Woodley/Lawler/Brown (streak [will be] 2 wins/3 wins/2 wins/8 wins!!) idk who's actually next in line sooo...
LW: i have no clue
FW: Mendes (streak: 5 wins)
BW: Barao/Assuncao (streaks: 1 loss, 6 wins) not announced yet but I assume assuncao
FlW: Bagautinov (streak: 3 UFC wins)
WBW: Davis (streak: 3 UFC wins)

Soooo basically only assuncao and brown (assuming he gets a shot w/ a win over lawler) have met or surpassed that streak in the last or next batch of challengers

JDS.

He has never fought a low name, or anywhere near unheard of opponent.

Werdum
Struve
Mirko
Yvel
Gonzaga
Roy
Carwin

in that order.

Cormier 15-0 fighting some incredably talented people.
9-0 under Zuffa

GSP in his second title fight. He had to beat Sherk, Penn, Trigg

Fitch with Alves having one fight less before getting his shot.

Hughes and Serra held up that division from modernizing for a really long time. It was clear then and very frustrating.

JDS had already built up one of the best HW resumes of all time by the time he got a TS.

DC. He beats up everybody and still has no title shot.

JDS followed by GSPs second shot...im not a fan of GSP but he went through Mayhem, Sherk, BJ and Trigg, then Hughes to win belt

GSP's career is so amazing when you factor in his non-title fights. He essentially cleared the whole division before beating Hughes

Jon Fitch and Johny Hendricks had pretty tough runs but Fitch's run was full if decisions with one finish of Alves and Hendrick's run had a few split decisions... obviously finishing people will leas ti a greater claim for a TS so I think JDS had the most difficult run...

Werdum (tko)
Struve (tko)
Cro Cop (eye injury? )
Yvel (tko)
ManBearPig (tko)
Then Nelson and Carwin by lopsided decision

I know Brock getting ill had something to do with it, but with am amazing run like that with so many finishes, why wasn't JDS given a TS sooner?

Brock was a big star so he went first.

Then you had the big 3 who hadn't lost (at that time) in the UFC.
Carwin went first because he was old and didn't have many fights left.
Cain went next because the UFC wanted to please their Mexican fans.
Then JDS got his shot.
The UFC stretched it out and had them all fight other guys and they only faced each other if it was for the title, or after they had a title shot.

Well, Cormier has to wait so much because he doesn't want to fight his friend and changed weight class.

To be fair DC could have had his title shot but opted not to fight his everyday training partner. Love the UFC is using a LHW bout for top MW contender, but can't count DC's dominant performance at HW towards his LHW contendership.
