... to WW?

I have seen threads started about this and watching his fight with Okami I agree. He looks too bulky to move quick enough to throw anyone off. He throws hard punches but they are not in and out at all, he opens up when he throws these wide hooks/upper cuts. He can have better reach compared to the opposition and will hopefully loosen up if he loses some of that muscle and goes down a weight class.

Agree? disagree? thoughts?

Won't really help, he better off where he is at. I think the cut would hurt him more.

It's either cut down or fight like Wanderlei.

While his stocky frame may be partly to blame for his shortcomings in the UFC, I think that his questionable cardio and rudimentary boxing are just as detrimental. Moving up or down a weightclass won't help if his opponents can get out of the way of his haymakers, wait for him to get tired, and then proceed with their game plan.

I don't think weight cutting is the solution to his problems. I think he belongs at 185. He needs to fight smarter.

Too many good wrestlers at 170. He would get manhandled.

yah I'm surprised a guy that has fought in the olympics isn't more smart/technical. He's competed in the highest levels of judo and I haven't seem him use it in mma.

Since he will have a reach disadvantage at MW most of the time, I believe that he will have to adapt his style accordingly.

Mike Tyson is the first one that comes to mind when you think about a rather short stocky guy that absolutely murdered taller guys. His key (at least in the beginning of his career): Speed, great boxing technique, lots of body shots, great cardio and a urgency to finish when the opportunity presented itself.

The thing i have found most surprising about Lombard is that despite his Olympic judo background his takedown defense has not been spectacular. Also, his cardio does not seem to be as good as some of the other top MW.

He'd struggle with only one arm.

He's too small for LHW.
He's found his limit.

I try to utilize Mike Tyson style in MMA and I can tell you that mastering the peek-a-boo style is like a full-time job.

Besides its not that effective in MMA, because youre very open to kicks and knees especially front kicks.
You have to work with a lot of fints to get close enough to your opponent to land some of those bombs.
Otherwise if you hit your opponent with one of those hooks it will hurt a lot with 4oz gloves.

Mike tysons power came from his rotation of the whole body leaning into hooks, yet not falling out of balance to follow up with other hooks and uppercuts nor lacking speed.

He'd be small for the WW division too.

He's like 5'7..........

He needs to lose some of that muscle mass......it's not actually helping him in his style.....

I could understand if he was a wrestler that took people down every fight....the muscle could be used as an advantage......but just plodding around the ring throwing punches...there's no need for that much muscle.

We need more threads asking if Lombard should cut to 170, imo.

I'll tell you one thing, if you look at the elite's at 185, none of them are 5'9

i say he should amputate one leg then challenge aldo. less targets for him to kick.

I don't think Hector's problem is that he is too small for 185... I think he is struggling with a huge step up in competition... Bellator has some decent fighters but are lacking about 155.. with the possible exception of Ben Askren... the fact is that much has been made of Hector Lombard's undefeated streak of 25 fights (including a highly controversial draw with Kyle Noke), but aside from Brian Ebersole, James Te-Huna and Alexander Shlemenko, the general level of competition was lacking...

I just think that his reputation has been built up due by fighting lesser competition, and when the bar got raised, Lombard was left wanting...It is not that Hector is under performing, he is what he is, and that is a good, not great, middleweight.. and cutting to 170 will likely result in a good welterweight...

We talkin about the same Lombard?

But nah he's good where he's at he just needs the right fights
If Okami can outwrestle him at 185, then you figure he's gonna lose some muscle mass getting to 170, and that division has the best wrestlers so I just don't see it really working all that well for him.
