Who decided on the rainbow for the LGBTP?

I'm no gay historian but back in the day there was a hanky code where gay dudes would wear different coloured hankies depending on what their thing was. So if you were into pissing on dudes you'd wear a yellow hanky in the right back pocket or whatever. The rainbow prob comes from that.

NHK World's Tokyo Eye 2020 TV show had a segment talking about them revising the signs to make them more understandable in advance of the Olympics being there. I think one guy who designed some symbols said he didn't trademark them in order to let them have more widespread use and acceptance.

For iPhone, I need some English text for buttons since I don't know what the fook these lame symbols mean and I don't want to unintentionally delete or share anything.
