Always wanted to know, I watch those fights like that was Prime Aldo even though he's still winning, it's just nothing compared to his WEC tear. Also, if he KO's mendes again (my prediction :S) I'll maybe take it back, but it depends how he gets the W.

UFC Aldo beats WEC Aldo via unanimous decision.

Seriously, you guys with your "WEC Aldo" lol...

UFC Aldo is way better than WEC Aldo, just less wild. Barao is the new WEC Aldo.

Lies. Show me a WEC Aldo fight where he's getting beat up worse than Hominick had him (And yes Hominick lost clearly but still)

People have to remember that the competition he faced in the WEC isn't anywhere close to competition he's been facing in the UFC(with the exception of Mark Hominick) and will be facing in upcoming fights.

Come on... this is just silly. He's the same guy, and even better than he was. Only difference being he's champ, and wants to stay that way. Hell, he was champ in the WEC and fought the same way he does now against Faber. Honestly, what is so much different about him? Aside from coming out with the crazy flying knee against Cub, he is the same fighter he was, just fighting better comp. People put to much on this subject. Better competition, less risks taken. At least that's how I see it

Lol Aldo was getting shown up by Hominick because he was a bad straight puncher who mostly relied on hooks/uppercuts at that time n00b. Hominick's cleaner straight punches gave him fits.

He has only recently showed a nice jab and cleaned up his boxing game. He got through the WEC with a punching vocabulary based largely on telegraphed haymakers when he wasn't using the left hook to set up his right low kick, all while having his base lie in jiu-jitsu, which says more about the strength of his competition there than anything else.

So, in fact, his striking has only gotten better, and "WEC Aldo" is 1-1 in finishes over elite competition (Swanson, Faber).

yea your right man, there is no possible way the jose aldo of today could KO the likes of the great rolando perez, chris mickle, and alexandre franca nogueira.

b-b-but the WEC was basically the UFC of lower weight fighters at that time!!!!!!!!!!! :icon_cry2 *inhaling percocet*

Although, Nogueira was the lineal featherweight champion based on his taking the Shooto belt from Noboru Asahi, which counts for something (source). But, he also had fought only once in 2006 and 2007 before making his WEC debut against Aldo.

so if wec wasnt the ufc of lower weight classes what was?

are you trying to tell me faber, brown and swanson werent the best featherweights in the world

No, but by the same coin, to make it seem as though Aldo went 8-0 with 7 KOs against a murderer's row of world-class featherweights during his time in the WEC is simply absurd.

Like, who the fuck has Chris Mickle beaten?

*crickets*

One could argue that the only reason Mike Brown beat Faber was because styles make fights as well. He never succeeded after an elite level after that.

Striking of Pettis, grappling of Khabib, accomplished boxer of similar weight class, sub specialist with the subs of Shields all combined could tire him out by the 3rd or 4th round maybe you would have to mix it up good. :icon_lol:

Don`t no why, but this cracked me up!

This terminologies for MMA fighters are always amusing!

Don't forget the WEC cage was smaller then the UFC cage. This gives guys less room to work in and seemed to force more exchanges.
