some guys fight to the level of competition and carry a guy they should smash. Guys like gsp and rampage among others come to mind. There were a few fights that should have been beat downs that just weren’t.

On the flip side who are the guys who dominate for the most part when they take a step down?

I would say werdum is probably the biggest example. He will destroy you if he knows he’s much better. Guys like Harris, Hunt, roy, Travis Browne... he really fucks guys up. Lhw rumble as well, if you weren’t basically DC you were getting smashed.

Who you got?

Anderson Silva.
Highlight finishes FTW!!

Then again, he did that also against top competition...

Remember MMA is a sporting match. Competitors come into compete. With what menatily & intensity, the pace is ultimately set by them.<RomeroSalute>

What Fedor and Wanderlei used to do to cans was straight up criminal

Outside of that prob jones

He outclasses literally everyone

Don’t forget Cro Cop, well I guess Pride in general was filled with guys destroying overmatched competition

Joe Lauzon absolutely mauled some dudes, despite the fact he was never even a contender. Watch his abuse of Gabe Ruediger for a world class destruction of an overmatched opponent.

Rumble had some of the most devestating performances against overmatched opponents.

Watching Trevor Speer and Bader desperately diving for double legs from so far away was sad. They literally could do NOTHING to avoid getting knocked out short of running out of the cage or tapping to helplessness. Also his brutalizing of Yoshida was up there.

Also really flashy explosive fighters like Barboza and Charles Oliveira can look unbeatable against overmatched opponents.

Wand popped up first.

The cans were crushed, shredded, recycled and then melted into slag.

Anderson comes to mind. Fighters like Forrest, Leben, Irvin, good fighters in their own right, got embarrassed and destroyed quickly and looked like they had nothing whatsoever. It looked stupid to even put these people in the same cage even when Silva was moving up in some of these cases.

why limit Rumble to lhw?

I immediately thought of Overeem, when he switched to heavyweight. He destroyed a lot of guys, before he was caught by Bigfoot. :)
