Following Jake Shields recent submission loss to Palhares (no matter how controversial it may be), it got me wondering. Who are some other examples of great submission fighters whom got subbed in MMA?

Doesn't get much better than Shields, at least in terms of MMA grappling. Roan Carneiro has some very good BJJ credentials but he's been subbed multiple times in MMA.

Roan Carneiro is an Abu Dhabi Brazilian Trials Winner, Pan American Champion, and
Rio de Janeiro State Champion and he has actually been submitted several times. Once by Jon Fitch, once by Kevin Burns, once by some guy named Tommy Depret, and technically Anderson Silva submitted him....but due to punches.

Beat me too it! In my own thread!

Big nog got subbed twice. He is a great mma submission guy

Nogueira by Mir. Almeida by Hughes. The Gracies by Sakuraba. Yoshida by Barnett. Another high level Judoka by Fedor.

Rani Yayha, who is an ADCC champion was subbed by JZ years back if I remember correctly.

Wagnney Fabiano, choked by Benavidez and Semerzier

Paul Sass, subbed by Matt Wiman is worth a mention.

Carlos Newton by Saku. Maybe the best grappling match ever in MMA

I know he was practically a walking corpse but Sakuraba was subbed by Mayhem Miller....

Newton was also subbed by Matt Lindland. ...Carlos fought that fight @185....way too bulky for him imo

J-Lau has been subbed 3 times and has 17 submission wins to his credit.
