White House: President Obama will NOT attend the funeral for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia

I actually think this is a good thing. Obama's ideological core is so opposite of a great man like Scalia that he simply can't bring him self to honor him. Obama is just being true to his hatred of conservatism which was embodied in the legal genius of Scalia.

Whoa, that's some serious shade throw by Obama. I mean, I wouldn't either... But that's actually pretty bold.

Let's just wait and see how it all plays out.

So Obams will go to the funerals of Communists, KKK members and the Chappaquiddick Killer, but not Scalia's?

Yeah that is odd since we know Obama loves the KKK, or is it the black panthers? I get confused with the narratives sometimes .

Are you saying he didn't go to a KKK member's funeral?

He's not going to Scalia's funeral because of ideological differences. But he's proven before that he's willing to set aside differences (the KKK, killing women, ect) and attend funerals of people who have served the country. Scalia should be no different.

Who gives a fuck.

You go to bed wake up and your life isn't disturbed by this decision at all.

Except for Rex Kwon Do, his life is ruined it seems.

I have no idea and don't give a crap, but its friggin hilarious watching you guys get outraged and spreading yourself all over the place with the hate. You are insinuating he supports KKK members and communists , yet tomorrow you will say he supports black panthers and socialists.

I'm not saying he supports the KKK, but he did go to the funeral of a KKK member. He did go to the funeral of a Communist sympathizer halfway across the world. He did go to the funeral of a guy who killed a woman. But he won't go to Scalia's funeral because he disagreed with his interpretation of the constitution? That seems pretty petty and makes Obama seems like he wants to deepen the rift in this country, not bridge the gap. I don't see how you can defend this.

Obama just can't bear to allow the symbolism of his paying any respect to Scalia, even in death. He's going to the S.Ct., so it can later be said that he's paying respect to the institution, not the man. This is Soviet-style propaganda similar to what Stalin did to Trotsky reputation during his years in exile to downplay his significance in the development of Russia.

You know this how?

Answer a question for me if you like. Is there one thing that Obama did during his 7 years that you liked?

You could have at least thrown in a "muslim" or "Hitler" with Stalin, get the full effect.

That's the only explanation I can think of. I don't see why he wouldn't attend his funeral. That's been the tradition for the death of sittin SCOTUS justices. Going would be the classy thing to do. Why are you even defending this? Why wouldn't he go? Not going is classless. Has there been anything Obama has done that you haven't lauded?

But to answer your question, I liked the way he handled Hurricane Sandy.

From Politico

In spite of the criticism, people close to the Scalia family said Obama was making the right choice. "I wouldn't have expected President Obama to attend the funeral Mass, and I see no reason to fault him for not attending," said Ed Whelan, a former Scalia clerk who now heads the Ethics and Public Policy Center. "The ceremony at the Supreme Court seems the most apt opportunity for the president to pay his respects, but he obviously might have severe competing demands on his time."

There’s not substantial historic precedent for presidents attending the funerals of sitting justices. President George W. Bush not only attended, but also eulogized Supreme Court chief justice and fellow conservative William Rehnquist in 2005. But before him, the last justice to die in office was Robert H. Jackson in 1954.

Yeah Chris Christie suffered with Conservatives for liking what he did on Sandy too.

Eisenhower also attended the funeral of a sitting justice as well, I believe.

But a former clerk of Scalia's giving Obama a pass doesn't mean it's right for Obama to skip the funeral.

Still waiting on a good reason why he shouldn't go. Don't worry I don't expect you to give me a good reason since the WH press secretary hasn't either.

Can Obama do any wrong to you?

Can Obama do any wrong to you?

pretty sure it's that anybody that isn't a hardcore republican doesn't really care. he's paying his respects on friday, and if that's good enough for scalia's family and clerks, it's good enough for the average person.

conservatives are acting like he pushed his dead body down a flight of stairs and took a shit in his mouth. it's entertaining political theater, i won't lie, but it's also pretty inconsequential.

He has done lots wrong, but you see nothing but complaints no matter what he does, thats why I gave you the Obama loves the KKK and the Black Panthers reference.

Another article :

Presidents don’t always attend a Supreme Court Justice’s funeral. According to NBC News, only three out of the past seven Supreme Court justice funerals were attended by the President. When Bill Clinton was President, he attended two Supreme Court Justice funerals, but did not attend three others. He was present at former Chief Justice Warren E. Burger’s and Justice William Brennan’s funerals. He did not attend Justices Harry Blackmun or Lewis F. Powell Jr.’s funerals, or Justice Thurgood Marshall’s. Former Vice President Al Gore did attend Marshall’s funeral. Former President George W. Bush did not attend Justice Byron White’s funeral.

Historically, Presidents’ decisions on attending Justices’ funerals only sometimes seem to be connected to their political leanings. Burger was known to be a conservative, but his court made some liberal decisions while he was Chief Justice, and Clinton, a Democrat, attended his funeral but did not attend the funeral of Democrat Thurgood Marshall, for example. Blackmun was a Republican who became one of the most liberal justices on the Court, and neither Clinton nor Gore attended his funeral either. There doesn’t seem to be a clear pattern as far as Presidents’ decisions about whether or not to attend a Supreme Court Justice’s funeral.
