His first heavyweight run...
Just those two by themselves yea, but combine them with mobility of someone who is a class below?Cormier's strength and power at heavyweight has been fairly consistent

I mean, Cormier when he came to LHW retained the mobility that he used to showcase in the Strikeforce Grand Prix, but then to get to LHW not only did he lose a lot of fat, but also cut muscle to get there. He even had some chubbiness left over during his stay at LHW, except that he didn't look as big, so it's a wonder how much muscle mass was lost during his transition.
Normally you'd find that the lower weight class you go the more mobile/quicker fighters get, but then someone who moves in a pace that is a weight class below, especially in a class where most of the HWs just lumber and aren't very agile, it's a sign that the fighter is someone to watch, especially combining his strength.
- Strikeforce Cormier = had everything
- LHW DC = retained speed, but lost some muscle and strength
- DC back to HW = apparently retained most of his speed but gained extra weight and conditioning took a hit
He won against Gustason 1,4,5 against Gus ; 2 round was very close but maybe advantage Gus !He was in the best cardio shape of his career in his first title defense against Gus (and still lost, Gus 2, 3 and 4).
For what DC did to late start his career in SFORCE was crazy. If not for his loyalty to cain ( perhaps to a fault), who knows what his heavyweight ledger would look like. For my money, one of the goats .
This. Anyone who doesn't notice how much faster and more explosive he was here doesn't know what they're looking at. He remained effective, and had the technique to get it done against the elite, but his physical prime was at heavyweight in Strikeforce2011-2012
2011-2012
All that is fine but a small( er) and green DC whooped up on a chemically induced to the gills ant-silva and made a mockery of a still decent version of Barnett. The rest is history and fits with the rhythm..... and fairly certain DC was never a cheat. One could argue his late start was beneficial to him not having the wear and tear of starting early on and allowed him to be more durable and have a better chin than say he starting at a younger and having more millage..
He had his wrestling to fall back on so really he was starting at the right time considering many of his peers (guys born in the late 70s) had already been knocked out or been through several wars.
