IMO Jones version of Gus was better: something (mojo?) was gone from him after Jones or maybe after Rumble fight... So DC beat a bit lesser fighter.
Your opinions?

He's not old enough to be on the decline yet. I think he just looked better in the Jones fight because it was against Jones.

He fought different fighters; arguing in which fight he was the better fighter is stupid at best and moronic at worst.

Gus' footwork and cardio(he said the spinning elbow drained him leading to the 5th) looked better in the Jones fight. He was also more slippery in the clinch.

Not to mention he wasn't coming off of a brutal T/KO going into that fight as opposed to against DC.

He actually looked in the best shape he has been in the DC fight. But he was coming from some loses and there is nothing like when a fighter is coming from wins.

So for Gus, he can still beat both, but not right now. He needs to fight, gain what he had before the Jones fight, beat someone like Bader, then fight a top 5, beat him, then fight one of them again.

A lot of people keep saying that Jones only trained a couple of weeks for the gus fight and that's why gus looked so good. People like brendan shaub, mma beat guys, and Joe rogan fascinated that he was still able to win.

Looked better against Jones. DC worked him pretty good

Against Jones, that boxing, footwork and TDD looked great

He looked excelent against both, but-and this will sound stupid because i`m just a regular guy with no business criticizing Gus`s heart especially because he is a warrior-he needs more heart, he needs to push himself more in that define moment that makes champions rize, for me is not a coincidence that in both fights Cormier and Jones got the edge in the fifh round, they were the ones who when the fight was equal and pending to go either way, they push themselves to behind the limit to win, their championship material was displayed and that`s why they won. Gus always came short because of that in my opinion, he needs to find the champion in his heart, maybe that`s why we went on a depression and sometimes that`s what you need to find yourself, experience that low to rize like the champion that you are suppose to be, the future will tell.

Did you just pop right out of the rockymovie I was watching?

I don't think there was much of a difference. Bones probably didn't respect what Gus was capable of on the feet going in to the fight and realistically I think his TDD surprised everybody. DC obviously got to see Gus at his best and was able to prepare himself better

Considering he sent Jonathan to the hospital and arguably won that fight I'll have to go with that version. That being said his career is far from over so, pretty sure we'll see an even better version of him eventually.

they both dominated him so he looked the same in both to me. both fights he got tired by 4th round, and when there was exchanges he ran away in a circle. both fights he got a takedown which was the surprise.

Rumble fight

The Gus who fought Jones. He was more sharp in his striking & movement, and never turned his back to the opponent or became distacted by his coaches in the corner during the fight. He was more prepared for Jones then Cormier. I mean in the fight against Cormier he lost to many clinch-battles, fighting Cormier a fighter should prepare for clinch much better then what he did and utilize the huge reach advantage that he had against Cormier.

He needs to evolve his overall mma game, he has a huge reach advantage, and for example had decent effect with knees when he threw them against Cormier, but still for some reason rarely threw them even though the opportuinity was there. He has long legs but rarely throws head kicks or spinning kicks. He should look at Carlos Condit for a first step of inspiration, Carlos is a much more advanced and skilled version of Gus. Gus if you or your team reads this, pay Carlos good money (otherwise he will say "No" because of his affiliation with Bones), if he is in "retirement", to come in for sparring and training!

Even if he was a skilled kicker it would not be appropiate to trow against Cormier who can take him down without problems.

More wrestlig could help him too so he can hold the opponents down for some strikes when he takes them down, he has good timing when it comes to take downs.
