Prospect - Journeyman - Gatekeeper - Contender - Champion

Or

Prospect - Journeyman - Contender - Gatekeeper - Champion

?

The - fight - eez - the - fight

Prospect - contender - champion

Gatekeeper and journeyman are in a different sequence

Journeyman and gatekeeper generally come after someone has shown they are not a champion or contender. That's usually later in their career after they have already established that they're not capable of beating high level opponents.

To me, a gate keeper is more a guy who was really good, like Anderson Silva, still fighting past his prime. When a young fighter gets a win against a "name fighter" for his resume, he beat a gatekeeper. That is my understanding of it anyhow.:)

journeyman is not someone who would ever become a champion. usually someone with a lot of miles who was never that great or highly ranked but does have some abilities (usually, just being tough and being able to endure beatings lol).

a gatekeeper is also not someone who is on the way to being a champ, but someone who was never quite good enough to crack the top but stuck around near it forever and forms a barrier to other fighters from reaching the top, or a former champ/top fighter who declined out of contention but also hangs around near the top being a challenging fight for up and comers.

Gatekepper and Journeyman should branch out in their own trees

Journeyman is the stage between apprentice and master. Fighters are already generally at Journeyman level minimum when they enter the UFC. A Journeyman can be any of the other designations.

It seems you are using "Journeyman" and "gatekeeper" in a similar fashion.

Im in a union. i can see your confusion, but...
This isn't the union. There is no apprentice, no master, and journeyman has a different meaning.

Prospect to contender to champion.
Gatekeeper above journeyman
Gatekeeper is high level that separates contenders from the rest.
journeyman is experienced and skillful but def not near the top.
Gatekeepers and Journeymen can possibly have been Champions at one point but they are not at that level anymore

Bum -> Prospect -> Contender -> Champion -> Erick Silva
When they get older it's:
Bum -> The Ghost of (Fighter) -> Journeyman -> Gatekeeper -> weak-ass champion (Bisping, for example)
