Movies Which is better: Deep Impact vs Armageddon

I’ll say Armageddon just because it’s stuck with me more over the years. Deep Impact had some pretty tear jerking scenes. Took me a little by surprise

Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler ruined it for me. Every scene they were in was eye rolling for me. The stupid animal cracker scene. The singing to her before lift off. And the stupid slow mo running towards each other made me get up and leave early.

But nothing was more cringe worthy than Liv Tyler “attacking” Billy Bob Thornton in the command room during one scene. I remember this guy muttering under his breath “she means business” in the theater

Armageddon is a fun popcorn movie typical of a Michael Bay production.

Deep Impact is a movie with more depth and emotional impact. Unlike Armageddon, where the world was saved by the self sacrifice of Bruce Willis, in Deep Impact they weren't able to stop the smaller part of the asteroid and billions died. However all the remaining crew sacrificed themselves to prevent total destruction.

To be honest though so is Deep Impact for its era, the reporter finding out whats going on via political scandal is quite fun but after that its such a ponderous film, disaster movie full of hammy family drama and nationalism.

Both about 6/10 films for me.

It's seriously one of my favorite scores of all time. Gives me goosebumps and is a huge reason why I like the movie so much

The sprinkled in bits of Aerosmith for the training sequences is a great touch as well to compliment Don't Wanna Miss a Thing

Deep Impact.

The entire plot of Armageddon goofy. They've got an iron meteor the size of Texas heading toward them and they're going to split it in half with an H-bomb?

Back when I first saw them I walked away enjoying Armageddon a fair bit more. Since then I have grown tired of Michael Bayisms and the Michael Bay / Roland Emmerich school of character development and find even their better movies kind of hard to watch for that reason.

Deep Impact wasn't perfect but seeing governments try to solve these sorts of situations with plan A, plan B, plan C is more interesting to me at this point, as is the question of what would people actually do when they are too old to be part of those plans even if they work, and so on.

If I were to rewatch one at this point in time it would probably be Deep Impact.
