You ever look back to a fighter you once hated and realized you should have been rooting for them instead? For me that guy has to be Brock Lesnar. I absolutely hated the WWE fan base he brought over and was too consumed by all those distractions at the time. It was so odd to look at the UFC seats and see The Undertaker, The Rock, HHH, and Stone Cold there. I rooted for him to lose every fight and celebrated Cain TKO'ing him.

After he retired, I realized the amount of fun he brought to the UFC. He put asses in seats and made a PPV feel like a PPV. UFC 100 is still the most sold PPV and best card on paper thanks to him.

I hated Rumble for being both bigger and blacker than me. Then, I realized the blackness was inside of me all along. Also, it was all over my skin.

Honestly, I agree. Brock was actually a good example. I'm not sure I'd root for him today either, but I would acknowledge and appreciate the level of excitement, hype and generally fun atmosphere that he would bring along.

I also never liked Carwin especially much. I just never found him interesting. I would still like to see his punching power in the HW division - just for the hell of it. Same there, I would probably root against him all the time, but I sure do miss him in the UFC now that he's out.

Chael Sonnen. God I hated that guy, despite knowing he was just trolling everyone. I have come to change my mind on him, and appreciate what he brought to the table. Not everything is so god damned serious in this sport, just let your guard down for a second and appreciate the role playing him, McGregor and Brock brought us - it's quite fun if you let it be fun for shits and giggles.

I hated Diego when he beat Nick. I hated Karo when he beat Nick. I quickly realized that was dumb and that they were both good fighters. Now you gotta do some Joe San type stuff for me not to like/appreciate a fighter.

The only one that comes to my mind is Tito Ortiz. During his prime I just didn't like him. I found him rude, overrated, obnoxious.

Around his fights with Forrest Griffin I became a fan. I guess I found that underneath the (perceived) douchiness of Ortiz was a tough fighter, an interesting guy, and often unintentionally, a funny person.

So I've been rooting for Ortiz since before he beat Bader.

GSP, Im always going for the underdogs but GSP was a legend even if he didnt brawl he put on crazy technical fights that neutralized the other fighters until age and injuries caught up to him. He lost his last fight against Hendricks

    What an odd question

I understand not liking someone like Conor because of the way he acts
or to not enjoy watching a certain fighters style

But to hate them? to feel so strongly as to actually hate them

    And then regret it later?

What the fuck is going on?

I don't "hate" fighters. I'm a fan of certain fighters. I'm not a fan of others. That's it.

Hating a fighter because of his dumb ass fans is just bewilderingly stupid to me. It's hipsterism at it's worst. There are certain fanbases that may drive you up the wall, but don't let that pollute your view of the actual fighter... at the end of the day, he's just some guy who trains his ass off and fights for your entertainment. Even if you're not a fan, they all deserve your respect.

    I don't think I ever hated someone.
I didn't like Weidman for beating Silva, now I'm his fan.
