This is pretending Silva today went back 17 years or so back in time

I would have to say Mark Coleman. I wouldn't go as far as saying that Coleman's takedowns were Sonnen level but his ground and pound was just as brutal

As for Gracie, I think he would have had a hard time submitting Silva and would eventually have gotten annihilated in the clinch

As for Shamrock, even though his BJJ defense greatly improved after the first fight with Gracie, I think Silva's length would have been too much for him to deal with

A fight with Patrick Smith would have been exciting stand up war for a few minutes

If anyone stood a chance it a chance it would have been Bustamante. Back then though MMA was so much less evolved everyone had one specialty and knew nothing else fighters like Hendo and Belfort who had two strengths were truly seen as incredible. No one 17 years ago would have been able to get through Silva's reach and one punch KO power heck back then most HW's wouldn't have. If a lucky wrestler got Silva to the ground somehow Silva's BJJ would easily be able to sub them.

Prime Coleman would have smashed him. It would have not been close. Styles make fights and while Anderson can eat 300 shots from Chael to win by last minute sub that would get you killed V Coleman.

Prime Tito beats Anderson for the same reason. He won't be able to keep it standing.

Prime Couture beats him most times but he could get Chuck 2'd.

Prime Chuck is the fight I would want to see most. Straight on aggression V arguably the best counter striker in the sport. Can't call that one.

Bas, if we are talking openweight. Frank Shamrock if we are sticking to MW.

Dan Severn... Size difference is too great. Coleman would gas too quick. Maybe Bas but he would have to sub Andy cause while he had great stand up, we're talking about Andy here.

I was going to say Kerr. Early, roided up Kerr would have completely annihilated Silva via roid strength and ridiculous weight advantage.

What's the over/under on how long it would have taken Anderson to kill Paul Varelens?
