Which actor based on his filmography just on a decade starting in the 0 year of the decade and ending in the 9 year has had the best group of movies in those years?

Some possible contenders:

Tom Hanks 1990's: Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, The Green Mile, Toy Story
Harrison Ford 1980's: Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones 1-3, Blade Runner
Kevin Spacey 1990's: Seven, Usual Suspects, Glengarry Glen Ross, Swimming with Sharks
Al Pacino 1970's: The Godfather Part I & II, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon
Robert DeNiro 1990's: GoodFellas, Cape Fear, Casino, Heat, Ronin
Robert DeNiro 1970's: Taxi Driver, Godfather Part II, Mean Streets, Deer Hunter
Jack Nicholson 1970's: Chinatown, Five Easy Pieces, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

I would've considered Christian Bale for the 2000's if The Fighter had been 1 year sooner, pushing him from being borderline to be over the fence.

Spacey aldo had American Beauty and L.A. Confidential in the 90s. I'd say Spacey.

De Niro also had Analyze This in the 90s. And Hanks won the Oscar for Philadelphia too.

Ill go with Spacey, but i'm sure Ford or DeNiro 70s will be more respected. Imo, DeNiro 90s is a very close second.

Good thread

I think any of the more modern actors of the past half century are going to have a tough time dealing with pre-60's actors due to the volume turnover of film production. One of the first that came to mind was Jimmy Stewart:

Jimmy Stewart
Harvey (1950)
The Greatest Show on Earth (1952)
The Naked Spur (1953)
The Far Country (1954)
Rear Window (1954)
The Man from Laramie (1955)
The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)
The Spirit of St. Louis (1975)
Vertigo (1958)
Anatomy of a Murder (1959)

And that was just the first name that popped into my head.

True. I have only seen two of those films; I can't honestly assess his filmography.

I was thinking for some reason that American Beauty came out in 2000 or 2001, but since it came out in 1999 it definitely helps his cause immensely.

Robert Duvall had a very good 1970's now that I think about it.

Godfather
Godfather Part II
Apocalypse Now
MASH
Network

Toshiro Mifune in the 50s

Rashomon
The Hidden Fortess
Seven Samurai
The Rickshaw Man
Throne of Blood
Samurai III: Duel at Ganryu Island

As well as several over lesser known films.

Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 80s

Predator
Conan
Commando
The Terminator
Red Heat
The Running Man
Red Sonja
Ahem, Twins

Oldman had a great 90s, in terms of memorable performances that is.

QFT. Personally, I'd look to James Cagney, Katharine Hepburn, and Bette Davis in the 1930s and Spencer Tracy, Cary Grant, and Humphrey Bogart in the 1940s. Not only are the filmographies unreal, but we're talking about a level of consistent greatness no matter the film, no matter the filmmakers, no matter the cast. It's truly remarkable.

Haha. Spencer was the second name that popped into my head, but I was too lazy to even IMDb and survey his top decades.

All I'm gonna say is that Apollo 13 is one of the greatest fucking movies of all time and I've always loved it and for that, if for no other reason, I'm gravitating toward Hanks. But he really did have an epic decade there, and I would actually want to switch out The Green Mile and Toy Story for A League of Their Own and Saving Private Ryan on the OP's list.

Tom Hanks also had Philadelphia in the 90s, which he won his first of two Oscars for. And Saving Private Ryan, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail. He probably wins.

Jim Carrey 90s: Dumb & Dumber, The Mask, Liar Liar, Ace Ventura(s), Batman, Truman Show, The Cable Guy

Jim's 94 is definitely a contender for "Best Year," with Ace 1, Dumb and Dumber, and The Mask

John Cazale only starred in 5 films before he died. All in the 70s. All 5 were nominated for best picture.

The Godfather
The Godfather 2
Dog Day Afternoon
The Conversation
The Deer Hunter

One wonders if he and Streep could have surpassed Hepburn and Tracy as the greatest acting power couple in history.

He was more of a supporting actor to be fair. Lacked the looks to be a true leading man.

Pacino in the 70's imo. Damn he was a handsome man in GF2...no homo.
