Lots of people writing him off and lots of people saying he showed he belongs in the Robbie fight and Masvidal KO was a fluke. So where do you think his ceiling is? Is he a potential title holder? Top 5? Top 10? Or worse?

To me, I think he’s good enough to hang around the top 10-15, you don’t get to be 19-0 without some serious skill. I think he’s likely too old to change his game up enough to make the adjustments necessary to thrive at the top. He’s just too one dimensional and predictable to consistently beat top guys imo. I don’t think he’s looked good at all thus far in his UFC career and I think he needs to take a slight step down in competition and face a non-lethal striker to better gauge where he’s at.

Insert gif of Askren getting flying kneed into the ceiling

He should definitely take off some time and maybe paint the ceiling in his home. He needs to recover before stepping back in there.

Who knows what he can do in the division. The reason we watch is because we don't know. That's what makes it interesting. Lots of interesting matchups to make.

He spends his octagon time looking up at it with a vacant stare, like a dead body.

it's worth mentioning that the 18-0 record was built outside UFC, where the general skill-level is significantly lower
if he had built the majority of that record inside the UFC (or even just 7-8 fights), the discussion would be very different

The sky.

He'll win his next 2-3 fights and he'll be back in the title discussion convo. Calling it now.

bruh he just needs to run into the takedown, if he could faint more. probably learnt from this. robbie fight was a warning definitely top 5 at a chance at the title.

Askren's ceiling = Masvidal's knee

In all seriousness, top 3. Masvidal caught him but if they fought 10 times, I think Funky would win at least 5 if not more.

His ceiling was Koreshkov and Lima. He's still Dad Bod GOAT.

As long as he doesn't adapt he has nowhere to go but down. Even guys like Khabib and Usman had to transition away from pure wrestling and step up their striking by a lot. Lawler fought Askren in the dumbest way possible, not a lot of the top 10 in 170 are dumb enough to think they can beat Askren in a wrestling contest. If they strike at Askren and be evasive it'll be hard for Askren to get his wrestling started.

I don't think he ever contends for a UFC belt.

I don't ever see him as a title contender Not only is he extremely one dimensional but he also lacks the athleticism that all the other top 10 Ww have.

Him "beating" robbie lawler will be the highlight of his ufc career. Unless they give him low ranked opponents that he can lay on for 3rds.
