Yoel Romero's manager said that he is moving up to 205. Romero was offered the Gustafsson fight @ UFC 227 but because he needs surgery on his broke orbital (#Reaperbless - https://www.mmamania.com/2018/7/10/...-manager-wants-daniel-cormier-ufc-title-fight) the timing didn't work out to fight that soon. With DC only fighting once more (at max) in the LHW weight class, where do you all see a 41 year old Romero fitting in @ 205? I'll leave Cormier and Jones out of this since they are both unlikely to ever fight Yoel (DC retirement and Jones suspension) and both would WRECK him anyway.

We could easily see a DC / HW situation where he looks even better without the brutal weight cut that he is obviously incapable of making anymore. His biggest competition is going to be Gustafsson, Oezdemir, Glover Teixeira, Latifi... Maybe Shogun (doubtful) and a moving up Rockhold (already saw how that goes).

I don't see any of those guys beating Romero, Gus is the biggest threat, but he always gets beaten by the top level guys. So I think by next summer Yoel Romero will be the UFC LHW champ. Do you see him having as clear a path to the title as I do? Or will guys like Gustafsson and Oezdemir beat up on old man Romero?

IMO he is the better fighter than Whittaker, but because of his inability to make 185 we unfortunately have to discuss him at 205
EDIT: I originally said "clearly the better fighter" which several people pointed out is not true. I got carried away. I still favor Romero slightly over Whittaker

At LHW he will be healthier, comparatively quicker, his cardio will be better and his speed will still lead to knock outs.

He's instantly one of the best in the division and him getting the belt wouldn't surprise me.

The only X factors are his age (he's a freak, but time eventually beats every man) and if he stupidly packs on more muscle instead of just cutting less weight.

Bring back rumble to crush this dude
Now THAT would be a dope matchup! But we all know how Crumble reacts when the fight hits the canvas ... Rumble is one of my favorite fighters ever but he ain't fuckin with Yoel on the ground

Idk, but he's gonna be fast as fuck compared to some of the guys, and he's already the most athletic fighter in the division. Maybe his cardio is better from not having to cut weight. He kinda beat up on Feijao in his Strikeforce fight, but was pretty green and lost. He did slow down, but I believe he wouldn't gas as badly at that weight now, bc he understands the game a bit better. He does well, IMO.

I think we are looking at a HW DC situation with Yoel. His cardio should Improve without the weight cut and i think his power will translate one division up with the little bit of extra weight. I think he does to Gus what Rumble was able to do, and in a Jones/Cormier-free division I think the uncrowned champ finally gets his real belt

Gus vs. Yoel for the LHW title if DC vacates will be a DOPE fight.

Yoel can beat anyone not named DC/Jon Jones at LHW. The only question is whether he can beat Father Time... He's 41 and has a lifetime of athletic competition behind him, eventually time is gonna catch up to him. Who knows how many fights he has left at the elite level.

I don't see why he can't fight until 50?

Could be. I could see it happening. He will have a similar stature to DC. DC is listed at 5'11", Romero 5'10". So Romero will be a bit stockier. He will be the best wrestler in the division, has bombs for hands, and the best overall athlete. His gas tank is the question mark, but like has been said, it should be better without the cut. But if he has big strong guys hanging all over him, he can still gas out. That is really the only hindrance the man has as a fighter. If he has cardio, I think he could beat DC. DC being somewhat at his level as a wrestler though, I believe he would tire Yoel out and win, but Romero could possibly nullify DC's wrestling with his own, and a striking match between those two would be a lot of fun. Would be a good fight, and I'd like to see it.

he will fight someone at the top of the division. Dana knows that time is running for Yoel and he doesnt have much left.

Yoel is a tough matchup for DC

DC won't have an advantage in the wrestling as he usually does which will leave him to box, which he would probably win, but Yoel is explosive enough to KO anyone on the planet.

he end up in the top and have a chance to fight for the belt sooner than later with a win or 2

Even with cardio I think Romero would get owned by Cormier. Romero is good on the feet but only in bursts due to his wrestling background. I know MMATH is a silly way to predict future fights but I think Whittaker and DC have a similar style on the feet (although DC doesnt throw nearly as many headkicks and they aren't as effective as Whittakers) I think DC pieces him up on the feet, would also be able to take the biggest bombs Yoel throws and nullify his wrestling. I think it would be a 49-46 for DC. If Yoel is smart he avoids DC and takes the belt from whoever has it after DC's last fight

RDA; a former champion, faced 11th ranked Saffiedine, 5th ranked Magny and number 3 Lawler when he moved up a weight class. Romero should have to put in at least one fight that isn't a shitshow prior to sniffing a title shot.

Anyone not named Alexander Gustafsson gets merked.

He won't beat gus, quote me. Gus the king, Romero the prince, rocksalt the joker
