Ask this again in a couple weeks, people are still really excited and will prolly overrate it.

Its better than that slop-fest Shogun vs Henderson people fawn over.

    dont know man

when you take everything into consideration:

    undefeated/undisputed champ

heavy underdog challenger who exceeds all expectations

back n forth battle with both fighters giving it all

every close decision at the end that couldve gone either way.

    its like a rocky movie.

not many fights could top that

I say that as there are thousands of fights, not just from the UFC, which most only watch.

Comparing it as the all time top 3 is astounding.

    Was a 5 rounder too!

Add a couple knockdowns and some more ground action and it's definitely Top 10 in my book.

up there with Chael v Anderson 1, Hendo v Shogun, Diaz v Daley, Fedor v Rogers,

KZ v Poirer was meh .... 2012 really didn't have a stand out awesome fight.

Griffin v Bonnar 1 is also an overated fight IMO

couldn't agree more. this is a fight i will rewatch from time to time, and it gets much more exposure because of the conditions (title, undefeated, underdog, main event, nike etc etc).

but in reality i'd rather watch Newton/Saku, or Diaz/Gomi, or Shogun/Nog. Fuck even Huerta/Garcia ranks higher for me. And i still think my favorite fight from this year is Lauzon/Varner.

Just having this discussion the other day. Diaz V Gomi was the bomb. Diaz was cut badly, and he's waving Gomi in yelling "C'mon, bitch!" And finishing with a gogo?! First time I'd ever seen it a fight... Awesome.

When you take into consideration all of the emotion for me, it was the best fight I've ever seen.

2012 had good fights, but no classics.

Gus v Bones is an instant classic and will be talked about for years.

KZ v Poirer, while better than the average fight, is a very forgettable fight.
