Stephens was on a bit of a run after knocking out Jeff Emmett and Korean Super Boy and beating an over the hill Gil Melendez.

Both Emmett and Choi are still largely unproven and Stephens always gets beat when he steps up in competition.

Aldo is a shell of his former self but still was way too much for Stephens to handle. Does Stephens need to switch somethings up? He is always entertaining but just can not seem to step his game up to the next level.

Stephens is not old by any means but he IS getting a little long in the tooth in fight years so maybe he will hover around the top 10 from here on out but hope he can get one more run if the cards fall his way....

Maybe go somewhere where people know who the fook he is

Back to journeyman status, where he has been his whole career.

He's like Bisping in a way since he's been good but not great his whole career and went on a fantastic run, except Bisping caught some luck and was able to get a title out of it.

Stephens has always been on the cusp of greatness but never seems to get there. He's Melvin Guillard without the personal problems.

He should probably fight someone below him in the rankings. Maybe Bektić or Volkanovski. I like having Stephens in a role as the gatekeeper guy who tries to derail hype trains of the younger guys.

I would love to see him against some lightweights. Nothing to do in the featherweight indeed

Swanson is kind of in the same boat. Always seems to lose to the top tier
Seriously though he should stay. One big loss shouldn't throw him off. Plus with guys like Jeremy are perfect for seeing if hyped up new comers are Champion material by beating Cub, Stephens, etc.

he's better off fighting in Bellator - he has a chance of being champ there....

He is MMA old, this was his last chance to touch a title imo, maybe Yair when he comes back?

He's a journeyman. Always has been, always will be. I was confused at how hyped up he was getting after knocking out completely unproven/overrated Josh Emmett.

A young riser like Bektic or Volkanovski would be a good next fight for him.

He puts guys to the test well, not sure if he will ever do much more.

he can go back to being a gatekeeper, dude always gets rolled when he faces the elite of the division

He's what he has been for awhile now, an exciting borderline top 10 fighter. This recent run very well may he the peak of his career. And if it is, that's nothing to he ashamed of. The guy has been in the UFC for 11 years and nearly 30 fights. He's always exciting and he always brings a fight. He's the type of fighter fans should cherish, but in recent years MMA fans have become more and more like boxing fans. In the old days, fighters weren't trashed after every loss. Fans understood that on this sport you're going to take some losses. Unlike boxing, you don't get to pad your record to get to 30-0 crushing cans before you start facing real competition.

There is nothing wrong with being a second or third stringer. He can continue to gatekeep that top-10. Having known constants hold position in the rankings is important to a divisions health
