I could be missing some stuff here, but from what I can remember from reading an interview with Nelson: The only reason he's called Big Country was because when he first started he would take everyone down and somebody (I forgot his name, but he lost to Aleksander Emelianenko in Bodog) asked him if he was from a wrestling-oriented state AKA the country (well to him) and considering he was a HW the name stuck. Again memory is a little hazy.
