Spinning techniques are some of the techniques that muay thai based fighters have problems with. Traditional muay thai doesn't do spinning attacks so they aren't as used to them compared to the traditional muay thai/kickboxing techniques. He isn't the only muay thai based fighter that has loss fights due to spinning techniques.

Actually it's a very rare case that it ends up like that. It's a typical MT vs kickboxer or Taekwondo. They use a lot of spinning and side kicks. More than 90% of those fights are won by MT fighter and that's after the rules were modified to take the strongest points of the MT, by not allowing elbows and repeated knees in the clinch..

I'm not talking about straight muay thai/kickboxing. I'm talking about in mma. Yes mostly muay thai wins in pure muay thai/kickboxing unless the fighter that uses spinning attacks also has a solid muay thai base like Holzken. In mma muay thai based fighters do get caught with spinning techniques. Like in Bellator Gaston Bolanos vs Brandon Laroco, muay thai based fighter got caught with a spinning wheel kick. Wonderboy catches muay thai based fighters all the time with wheel kicks, Barboza as well. A lot of fighters catch muay thai based fighters with spinning techniques. If you aren't used to fighting someone who uses spinning moves or don't understand the spinning techniques to know how to defend/counter, or when they are able to throw it and if you are in range to get hit, or how they set up the spinning techniques, then it's going to be hard to read. That goes for all techniques really. You need an understanding of it to be able to defend against it, and most fighters don't train spinning moves at all.
