You do realise that the UFC does not pick the single hardest fight for every fighter at every time, right? That they choose fights that make them money? Khabib would have been a ridiculous choice right now for Conor.

Is he a dangerous fight? Sure! He's also a guy who has no following amongst anyone but the hardcores, hasn't fought in two years, has missed weight before and who pulls out of fights frequently. Those are all bad for business, it's a big risk-zero reward situation for the UFC, especially with Conor having only days to prepare for a totally different style of fighter.
