This is a good comment. I appreciate the perspective. The following bullet-points are also meant for perspective, not to argue.
- Some of the anger during the W, years was a reaction to what we felt as extreme partisanship by the Congress (esp. Newt’s House) during the Clinton years. We felt similarly about his impeachment as conservatives today do about Trump’s.
- Any president who is elected while losing the popular vote is going to face backlash. People are going to be disenfranchised, and I think that’s normal.
- My big frustration during the Bush years was the constant accusations of not loving the country, not being a real American, loving and supporting terrorism, if I had an issue with us spiriting people (including U.S. citizens) away to secret prisons, torturing people, suspending their Consitutional rights, and so on.
edit: I hit the goddamn Post button too early
- it’s frustrating when people think I want to wake away their guns (I don’t), but I’m also sick of seeing our kids blown apart in school and conservatives don’t seem to want to help.
- It was frustrating seeing more judicial and executive filibuster’s during Obama’s presidency than we’d had in our entire history.
And on and on. So how do people like you and I get past this? How can we meet in the middle and work together?
