When hitting the pads/mitts how hard do you hit?

I find myself holding back considerably. I'm just curious what your thoughts are.

All depends on what i'm working on. Sometimes I go hard, other times I dial it back and work specifically on things like being speed and being fluid.

Why are you holding back? A good pad holder should be able to handle whatever you throw at them unless there's a big size difference.

as hard as you can without having horrible form, it'll help your conditioning as well

As hard and fast as you can while still managing correct form and technique. If your form is suffering as a result, dial it down a bit until the form becomes more natural, then increase power. Never, ever sacrifice correct form for power or speed. Ever.

i go decent power, i'm trying to really get my technique down so i'm not really concerned on power at the moment

too hard. I gas out too quickly and I feel like my quickness and fluidness suffers but I like to hear a real good pop when I hit them

I studied Yodsanklai a lot so i've always thrown hard. It's hard on the cardio but in the long run I benefit from it, I throw every kick, cross and even jab at full power.

Can't tell you how many people I've seen think that sickening crack they get with a kick is good.

It's just all foot and sends a shiver right down my spine.

Pads are meant to be hit hard, as far as I'm concerned.

A properly thrown kick in muay thai with the shin should result in more of a thud.

I've personally been struggling lately with not throwing every shot hard. I'm trying to separate speed from power, and just focus on keeping up my volume of punches and having clean technique at high speed. I'd say most of your full power stuff should be reserved for the heavy bag and fights.

I like both ways. I go full force for power and cardio. But i also like to go light on pads when training for smooth and flow in my combinations
