He's saying to Joe he'd never let a white boy beat him. Just listen to Hopkins going on about how a white boy could never beat him. Talk about losing ALL respect for a fighter. Joey Boy there, real class. Nice guy. I think it's safe to say who Im going to root for.

What do you guys think about that?

My bad on making two threads. First time starting a new one lol

It's just his way of stirring the pot.

I don't think he believes most of what he says.

It has already been discussed. Yes, there is a double standard. Yes, Hopkins is just saying these things to promote the fight. No, it is not worth getting worked up about.

Bhop is notorious for being a business man. He makes money. He promotes his own fights. He essentially creates drama.

However, racism is not acceptable. Not in this day and age. He crossed the line a bit.

Love Bhop as a fighter, and respect him as a witty businessman, but as a white man, im forced to root for Calzaghe.

I am not racist, but Hopkins insulted an entire race.

    Calzaghe by UD.

I'm sure this has been talked about before on the forums, but I didn't know and started a new thread.

ANYWAY. I agree with you, completely. I'm just so sick of racism not going both ways with certain people. Lost a lot of respect I had for that man after that. Imagine if Joey boy would of said something like that?

It really is a double-edged sword. It is also such a sensitive topic. I agree with your points completely too. I love Bhop as a fighter and look forward to watching the fight, but he really disappointed me with those comments.

Had Joe made those comments, I wouldn't want to know what happened to him.

No different to De La Hoya. Bernard learned his craft from the best.

Hopkins has always been classless. This doesn't surprise me at all. Notice how he keeps pointing at Calzaghe a couple inches from his face. That is also disrespectful. That gives me more reason to root for Calzaghe. People need to quit sticking up for Hopkins saying,"He's just selling the fight". That's bullshit, cause if Calzaghe did the same thing to Hopkins,Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would've both been on national tv the next day saying Calzaghe is racist. There is no double standard here. Hopkins is just a boring, slick boxer who isn't intellectual whatsoever. That's why his 1st defense is slinging personal insults. He can't intellectually defend himself.

I can't stand De La Hoya, but he never said "A black boy will never beat me". He just stated that black fighters can't take it to the body. Which I disagree with as well. Racial stereotyping is complete bullshit. De La Hoya is lucky he isn't white and made that comment.

    /agree !!

Thank God! You've said it the best. I see one way racism all the time, and seeing it from Bernard Hopkins in professional boxing is not where I would expect to see it. You just can't be saying anything even remotely close to that. People seem to think that if racism on Caucasians does not exist. If that's selling the fight and all that then we should just go ahead and let white people make comments about black people. See how well that goes over. It's totally BS that he gets away with that.

    Bullshit!!!!
If a white dude said that he'd be attacked immediately by everyone. Quit letting B-Hop off the hook. He needs to apologize for that ignorant, racist comment.

I was going to take offense to his comments. But then I realized....'wait a minute......I'M WHITE." Then I laughed it off and hopped in my Mercedes and drove to Starbucks...

I stated that yes, there is clearly a double standard when it comes to this kind of thing. I agree 100% that it is ridiculous.

If you want to discuss contemporary racial standards though, head to a political forum. You're not going to accomplish anything whining about it on a boxing forum.

The thread topic is about why Hopkins is being a racist. Therefore,it's acceptable for me to whine about it in here. Move this thread to political forum. I will then whine about it in there.

I'm going to assume you're 12 years old and just ignore this.
