I see some slyly taking the words of The GOAT SAINT-pierre out of context for whatever reason..

GSP has been gone for 3-yrs and deserves a tune-up fight before going in against any sort of high level caliber fighter. Everything is about timing and I do believe that Prime GSP is way better then Lawler and has faced alot of similar fighters who has brute force but lack the intelligence to beat him but right now he has been away for more then 3-yrs and asking him to take such fight is being unfair to him. He needs to get back first to see where his at to begin with and for all we know he could have lost some steps. I really like Lawler and consider myself a new fan but right now his in absolute peak and tearing things up but that being said I do believe Prime GSP is better then him all around

You are aware that you are on sherdog right?

Bisping is a tougher fight than Lawler for GSP. Yes a tune up fight would be in order however.

GSP is for sure a true champion and deserves to be in the GOAT discussion. But he turned down the Silva fight time and time again, and now that Bisping is champ, he's calling for a MW championship bout. I agree with you, he deserves to come back to warm up fights, but he's the one asking for the Title Fight. If Wiedman, Rockhold, Jacare, or Romero were champ, GSP would be trying to fight at 170.

"For whatever reason"

It seems like you know exactly what those reasons are

Plus, a MW title shot as a tune-up for WW title shot? Not only a title shot shouldn't be considered a tune up fight, but also you'd be surprised how that "tune up" fight would turn out for him.

Pretty much, imagine for example that BJ had been calling to fight Serra for the belt after he had upset George before a rematch, GSP fans would have gone absolutely crazy at that.

Tune up fight at WW(or MW if he's intending to fight there) is obviously no problem at all though.

Not serious if sure!?!
This is Sherdog breh!
If they win we hate
If the lose we hate
If they are well paid we hate
If they have no money we hate
They exist,so we hate...

We are just lovely like this.

I think a tune up fight vs mcgregor would be great for his confidence and his bank account.

At welterweight Lawler has been very good. He had an early career loss to Diaz, and a close loss to Hendricks just like GSP [Except he 'won'].

Lawler wasted a lot of years at MW. He would have been a very tough fight for GSP at any point in his career.

Fun how he is so eager to fight Bisping but never considered Anderson.

What's crazy is that Bisping is being called a tune up fight. I understand why, but dam. People claim the MW division is so much tougher than it was during Anderson's reign, yet GSP is criticized for wanting to fight the middleweight champ.

The best does what he wants. GSP is probably the smartest mma fighter ever, choosing opponents has always been done, anderson, fedor, mayweather

I think people need to realize this, just because you're the best of your time doesn't mean you'll always be the best.

Look at Matt Hughes, he was pretty much seen as the unstoppable Welterweight legend, with win, after win, after win. Now he did have he losses to the likes of Hallman and Penn, but still.

GSP comes along and just has more tools than Hughes, he's a terrible match-up for him, too diverse, too well-rounded in all areas.

The minute GSP fought someone his size, and with equal or if not better wrestling, with powerful strikes to boot - he was in trouble (Hendricks). You can talk primes and eras all you want, Hendricks is just GSP's kryptonite - even GSP at his best.

I personally think Lawler's size, height and overall build - partnered with very good takedown defense would be enough to keep it standing. Now, for any idiot who thinks that GSP could stand with Lawler, you're silly, because Lawler would walk through anything Georges throws. Prime Lawler, beats Prime GSP (in my opinion).

No idea, I think their cute tbh

he's not THE goat, he's one of the 3 fighters who can pretend to that status.
I personnaly think Fedor is ahead of GSP and Silva but they all have a case.

GSP is taking notes from Conor.

GSP could lose to Lawler and the mystique is gone. He is the favorite but still, risky.

If he goes up and loses to Bisping (and he will) then he can still fight for the WW title.

Who in their right mind believes that GSP can defeat Bisping. I mean cmon.

Bisping just outstruck Anderson and Rockhold. GSP is no striker.

He won't be able to outwrestle Bisping either cause of the obvious and huge size difference.

Cardio wise he is fucked cause he hasn't been active for a while. He will gas by 3rd rnd 100%.

GSP is toast.

If he wants to go for the 185 belt he definitely needs a tuneup fight. Lets see Jacare, Yoel, or Weidman are a bit down the rankings and should be perfect stepping stone for getting a title shot.
