The guy seems to be getting more difficult opponents with losses.

Loses to Stipe and then gets DC, at that time probably considered the number 2 HW. Now Big Nog, who some would still put in the top ten I'm sure.

Before this it was dudes like Mitrione and Kongo.

Now I think Nelson will beat Big Nog, I think it's a good match up for him. But I don't understand the logic behind more difficult opponents after losses?

He should also be angling for a fight with Overeem I think

"HW is thin" is probably going to be a popular response.

I like the fight though. I think Nelson will win but would love Nog to shock the world. Imagine if Nog KO'd Nelson!

Nog at this point in his career is a good opponent for Nelson.

Probably because he was being a good sport by taking the Stipe fight on short notice after he had just fought Mitrione. He gassed and was soundly outboxed, but I guess for stepping up to the plate he wasn't exactly punished.

Getting a bout with Cormier was a really big opportunity for him - Roy is generally a high risk, low reward fight for most people. The guy is either bottom or fringe top 10, but possess the durability and power to pose problems to just about anyone.

As great as Big Nog was, I wouldn't claim matching him up with Nelson is vindictive match-making. Ever since the hip surgery, Nog has displayed absolutely no ability to shoot from the outside or incorporate movement into his boxing. He's learned to sit down on his punches more efficiently and generate more power later in his career, but he's certainly lost a lot of mobility. Relying on the ability to KO someone standing or submit them off your back isn't exactly a recipe for success when fighting Roy.

Not sure what you mean. Nogueira isn't a more difficult opponent than Cormier and it's debatable whether he's even a more difficult opponent than Miocic at this stage in his career, and I say that as a big fan of his.

He fought Cormier because that was the originally proposed match-up for him before he jumped in against Miocic on short notice to add some star power to whatever card that was. They just stuck with it despite the loss, and because they didn't want Cormier to take out contenders since he wouldn't fight Cain and was likely heading to LHW anyway.

I agree with the consensus. Nog is a good match up for Roy.

Roy via ko.

Why does everyone pick Roy? Nog has better striking, cardio and grappling. Nelson has better chin and more one punch power. What has Nelson ever shown that he could beat Nog?

Roy deserves to fight top ten competition, but not top 5. He is the textbook gatekeeper at HW. Nog fight is pretty fitting IMO.

He's a fat guy who KOd a bunch of low tier HWs and a guy known for his shitty defense. He's the GOAT.

People say that he's awesome cause he looks like an average guy, though I don't know where those people live because I don't know anyone who looks remotely like Roy. He's pretty much the most unusual looking guy in the UFC. I've seen more people like Overeem than Nelson.

They are matching him up with fighters that can stick and move because they want him to loose decisions so they can fire him for being "boring". It is commonly known that Dana hates his guts. I hope he knocks Big Nog's block off.

Nelson beat Mir in a grappling match, Mir broke Nog's arm in 2.

He brings with him relative "name value." It is sorta the Tito Ortiz, Frank Mir sydrome, in which you have a certain name value, so you continue to get matched up with higher ranked guys, even if your current skills suggest you shouldn't be. Also, Nog has been out forever, he is probably an easier opponent for Nelson than Stipe was.
