I feel like there were 5 events that have help grow the UFC

Creation of the UFC and Royce dominating the early matches skyrocketed BJJ in North America, his mystique created a talking point other than the sports brutality- this grabbed the base of traditional martial artists, "just bleed" guys and original fans.

The modernization and regulation of the sport - enough said, this grabbed the "hardcore" fan base and created a niche sport people could enjoy without watching brawling bloodsport

The Ultimate Fighter and Spike TV - This piggy backed on the popularity of reality TV and grabbed the interest of people who were potential fans but not really exposed to it, culminating in Griffen vs. Bonner that was thank god not a snorefest, it grabbed the "casual" fan.

Brock Lesnar -His WWE popularity created a cross-over spike in PPV sales that hasn't been beaten before (Ken Shamrock) or since (James Toney) - He headlined in 4 of the UFC's top 5 UFC PPVs and set a UFC record that outsold any wrestlemania

So what's next? Fox fight cards don't really do much better than the Spike TV ones did, in fact TUF rating are lower, Ronda Rousey gets a lot of attention from females as anyone who has females on there facebook/twitter knows - but it hasn't translated to views much. What can the UFC do?

Does it need to grow any more? They get about the same PPV buys per year as boxing and more than pro-wrestling, their cable fights and TUF shows are consistently watched enough to justify staying on the air.

Can McGregor push the popularity? His first PPV with a last minute replacement outsold anything Anderson Silva or GSP ever did

Right now the easily way (or hardest, depending on your perspective) for the UFC to dramatically increase its global popularity, is for them to find a dominant Asian champion, preferably Chinese, given the population.

If you have a Chinese guy who can own a division, you don't even need to advertise that much, the sport will blow up in China overnight and the Chinese government would greenlight everything for the UFC in the country. If you think Ireland was crazy wait till you see the response with a dominant Chinese champion. We're not even talking stadiums cause no Stadium in the world would be able to accommodate the numbers that'll show up for a title fight. They'll probably open up Tian'anmen Square and have 800k people for the title fight, and you can expect TV viewership numbers in the hundreds of millions.

Too bad the Chinese can't fight worth a crap.

This thread was already done recently.

    Celeb TUF. Celeb vs Celeb.

Nude ring girls also good, especially on premium cable or PPV. Most of them already did nude modeling. It's become acceptable in USA to show uncensored bare buns on cable TV.

Promote Conor more and Paige Van Zant. And bring Tim Sylvia back. And bring back that Gladiator Intro.

Easily solved. Dan Hardy can't fight worth a crap either but was gifted an easy path to the title without facing any grapplers.

You think it's easy to find a Chinese fighter as good as Dan Hardy? LOL you're delusional.

You also can't just have a guy who can win a couple of fights, you need a guy who can actually be champion and dominate a division. Otherwise the sport will go away as fast as it came. If you could have a dominant Chinese champion, and top Japanese contender, you can have a China vs. Japan ultra nationalist fight on TV, with the right promotion, we're talking about viewership numbers in the 500 million range.

I think they need to make bigger cards when going outside of North America. They have been doing a good job by going to a number of different countries, but they mostly only bring small cards with local guys and one mid level fight to headline. Some bigger cards in Europe would help.
