If Volk beats Islam tomorrow is he planning on defending both belts or will he abandon one? Nunes is the closest example to defending both belts but she usually defends one and leaves the other division in limbo.

What do you think he should do?

He’s probably gonna be booked to fight the winner of Yair/Emmett and then the winner of Oliveira/Dariush.

Gonna have to be a quick turnaround this year at LW. The division is too stacked to hold up.

TBH so if Featherweight! I feel that there are too many guys in both divisions who are close to the top. I honestly hope that Islam wins and then defends against guys like Chandler, Poirier, Gaethje

I assume he would probably drop the belt he has to cut weight for

Probably going to have to agree to defend both belts in 2023 or vacate one of them.

Yeah in the unlikely event that Volk wins vs Islam I still expect him to drop back down and unify the belts, best for the division to do that rather than Volk vacate 145 and leave the interim champ to be promoted and be considered a paper champ.

We party like There’s no tomorrow. Then we run and hide before it’s time to clean up.

P.S.
Volk moves to LW and starts defending (no rematch to Islam) against rank squatters while we go through 10+ goat threads a week.

There's literally a FW interim title fight on this card.

The entire point of booking an interim title fight is so that Volk and the UFC don't have to worry about not having an undisputed FW champion.

If Volk wins his next fight will be at LW, and then MAYBE he'll drop back down to defend against the Yair/Emmett winner, or whoever they've defended against in the mean time. If not, he vacates it and simply stays at LW until he loses that belt.

They've already done this with Conor. It's not that difficult to figure out the plan here, especially when the interim title fight was booked and is occurring simultaneously lol.

Plus, it simply makes no sense for Volk to move up then swing back down immediately. The entire challenge with moving up is the... moving up. People are currently bigger than you, but with time you can negate that with added muscle. You'd be insane to prep for months to move up only to then need to spend months to move back down and negate all that progress you made. You'd be far better served simply staying put and bulking more to more properly adapt to the higher weight class and not even worrying about FW. Cutting an extra 10lbs of water weight is a lot easier than gaining 10lbs of muscle. Use your time to gain the muscle.

"is he planning on defending both belts or will he abandon one?"

He never came out and said what he's planning on doing, but to defend both belts means that one of his prospective opponents may have to wait 7 months to fight him, which is problematic. The winner of Oliveira/Dariush will be decided on May 8th, which means that the winner of that, at the earliest, will be ready to fight again in August, more likely in September. Volk has said that he wants to be an active champ, so is he willing to wait 7 months to fight again? Whereas the winner of Josh/Yair will be decided today.....

"What do you think he should do?"

I'm thinking that if Volk loses vs. Islam he should defend his FW belt, but if he wins he should defend the LW belt, and abandon the FW belt.

Pretty sure he said he wants to defend both by staying super active. Might aim for 3 fights a year?

I think he would defend 145 after since it'll be easy, then defend 155 , he says he wants to be the goat, well defending both these belts a lot would put him there

He drops the 145 belt.
Rodriguez or Emmitt becomes the new 145 champ.

Sherdog members will make a statement that beating Max 3 times = completely cleared out the division
