Does the UFC pay better or add a certain amount of incentive for a fighter to take a fight on less than a months notice ?

Well, first of all it puts you in good with the bosses.

Second, if you're a fighter who may have an uncertain future with the UFC, it may get you 1-2 more opportunities (provided you show up to fight and don't just lay around on the opponent).

Finally, some guys could just use the work.

Look at Varner. Had nothing really going on for him other than 3 wins in low-tier leagues.... comes up to fight in the UFC on short notice..... he's looking very good.

It will make the management happy and they seem pretty good at looking after company men

Yeah Varner had a result. DMJ is on the flip side of that coin.

Take the late notice fight and you are betting heavily on yourself.

You increase your probability of having Dana view you as a team player

Every replacement fighter at UFC 155 was successful. Sometimes taking a short notice fight can be worth it.

Max Holloway replaced Cody McKenzie, beat Leonard Garcia
Todd Duffee replaced Matt Mitrione, beat Phil De Fries
Derek Brunson replaced Karlos Vernola, beat Chris Leben
Jim Miller replaced Gray Maynard, beat Joe Lauzon
Costa Philippou replaced Chris Weidman, beat Tim Boetsch

i understand but people have been cut after doing it guys

That's true. It is a big gamble if you are on a losing streak. If you are already a pretty well liked fixture, you're laughing.

No they got cut for losing and usually there are other factors beyond that. The incentive is that you're fighting and you're getting paid. Like most jobs you know?

Besides that how many guys have been cut after taking a short notice fight? I'd like to actually see a list of people rather than whining.

Firstly money but also, many folks would rather fight a much better fighter on short notice than with a full camp.

The better the fighter, the more they are going to benefit from time to prepare specifics.

Dana is a businessman, so you can always have your agent/manager try to negotiate in a stipulation where if he loses (but in exciting fashion ie. very close fight), he gets a free pass on that loss. A lot of things happen behind closed doors.

yeah the thread owes this guy a list. Someone compile one, for the love of god!

Ask Chael about it.....or if you wanna hear about consequences talk to Hendo about last minute injuries. No knock @ Hendo he's a bad man and if your knees fucked well.....it's all about LEVERAGE

Stepping in on short notice can show the UFC brass[Dana White, Lorenzo, and Joe Silva] a number of things:

-That you're a company guy, and they can count on you.
-That you keep yourself in fight shape at all times and you're ready to go anytime.
-That you can take a fight on short notice with little adverse effects[if you win].

What you'll get from the UFC are:

-More opportunities to step up because you've shown them that you're willing.
-They probably give you more on top of your show/win fees.
-They won't be quick to cut you following a bad string of losses. Essentially they owe you one.

For a fighter it might be a way to skip steps on the ladder. Look at Leben, nobody thought he was relevant, then he beat Simpson and jumped in to beat Akiyama within just weeks of each other and suddenly people were looking at matching him up with contenders.
