What's the height cutoff point for the average man to be able to dunk with training?

Back when I used to train kickboxing and was in good shape, I tried playing some basketball 1 day. Turns out, I could touch the rim on a regulation size 10' hoop at 5'8" with a 68" wingspan. I could have dunked if I'd started training my vertical specifically to add a few more inches. I think it would be possible for me.

But it feels like I'm just at the point of it not being possible. If I was like 5'5" there's just no way. If I was 6' it feels like it'd be super easy. At what point is it just impossible unless you're like top tier 1% explosive genetics?

Im the last one that can call anyone else outta shape but the dude literally thought about jumping and ended up in traction

Listen man, in my 20's I was in terrific shape. At 35, I play chess. I played college ball and I haven't played competitive basketball in years.

I’m 6ft tall and I can’t jump worth crap. Even as a young lad I had no vertical leap.

I'm 5'11". In high-school I could dunk a basketball. However, I was skinny as hell back then (162 lbs soaking wet) and the hardest part was being able to grip the basketball.

I swear if you trained on this for long enough you could jump over anything. it was pretty fun too.

In my youth, I was touching the 10' foot rim easily at 5'9". I was a basketball coach and played daily, but could never quite get those couple of extra inches to fully dunk. Today, I'm old and fat at 49 with a repaired Achilles. My days of jumping are OVER. You'd be surprised how much popping an Achilles messes with your mind state when thinking about engaging in physical activities, lol. Even if I lost a ton of weight, my ortho said the chance of popping again is still pretty decent at my age.

I've always wondered about a max height for dunking. Was Spud Webb a fluke at 5'7" winning the dunk contest? Or is 5'7" doable? I see plenty of guys my height who never even come close. Some even wore them stupid shoes.

Wasn't mugsy boges able to dunk and he was like 5 nothin?
Yeah, 5'3". This video makes me wonder are all these kids flukes, or that since they play all day, they got to this point? The shortest dunker was 5'2".

That video gives short people hope here....
You should not do that.
All is Lost Now.

Touching the rim is still at least a half foot away from dunking. And unfortunately, vertical seems to be mostly genetic. Doing things like heavy squats, cleans, plyos, etc can usually add 2-3". Hope you get there, though. Best of luck.
