What's more effective in a real fight?

One other thing that comes to mind... in a real fight, if you're a BJJ guy, obviously once youre on the floor you have the upperhand with submissions and all that etc... the question is, how do you take the fight to the floor in a safe(r) way instead of just laying down and letting the guy climb on you?

jab/cross combos or armdrag to back and RNC. No need to go to the ground.

Let me explain the point system which is ingrained in every BJJ students from day one.

2 points for takedows,
3 pass the guard,
2 for knee on the belly,
4 points for mount or back control.

As you can see, It is 2 points for takedown. So in BJJ, we train to take your opponent to the ground.

I specialise in wrestling such as single, double and more greco style i.e from the clinch.

I like the greco clinch because i fell safer to clinch first to avoid unecessary strikes.

Some guys in my team rather do judo throws.

It is a matter of personal taste.

BJJ has mediocre stand up skills if compare to wrestling or Judo but you should acquire enought skills to guarantee a takedown on the average Joe on the streetz!

Thanks. Well I am by no means a 'street fighter' I just would like to know these things in a real life self-defense situation.

Is there such thing as a stand-up submission move in BJJ other than like guillotine hold?

arm triangle, standing RNC. a couple of wrist lock, front RNC (which is a neck crank), Kimura control (I think the cops use it all the time), ezechiel, and pretty much all the chokes.

I had a buddy choke out a guy with a cross choke while standing......the guy was wearing a tux....took place at a wedding...lol. The guy just fell down and my friend just walked away leaving the guy on the floor. I wish I would have saw it....I had it confirmed from guys that were there as well.

Yes Kimura works from standing....done it plenty of times working the streets. Chokes work as well....... I choked a guy out with his own Polo shirt one time.

This story sounds ridiculously familiar. What is your friend's name? I heard a story about some guy doing this exact same thing to a bouncer at a club.

I did a ezchiel choke on a guy while wearing my suede jacket as a demo.

then I told him to put my jacket on and did a cross choke on him.

worked well.

No my friend did it to his ex-wife's boyfriend and it took place at a relatives wedding. I remember someone mentioning doing a cross choke on someone standing as well but not sure who. I guess the shit works.

Yeah when someone wears a jacket or thick collared shirt...just makes it easier to finish them.
