What's impressive about DC is his ability to compete with guys with much longer reach.

DC 72.5"
Jon Jones 84.5"
Stipe Miocic 80.0"
Alex Gustaffson 79.0"
Anthony Johnson 78.0"

This is truly DC's biggest feat. To be able to outstrike guys with such an abnormally longer reach. You can say Conor is the best striker in the UFC, but even Conor had a difficult time fighting Nate who is not that much taller or longer than Conor.

If you had ever boxed, you know just how difficult, how tiring it is. I sparred with a 6'5+ guy in my gym and it is grueling to punch against gravity, against a guy who you have to rush in just to get a chance to punch him while he can punch away at you from the outside.

Besides when Anderson was able to withstand 5 rounds of gnp from Chael and to finally get a submission, this is the only time I have been this impressed with a fighter in overcoming adversity.

Not to mention punching up at dudes who are a head taller than him.

He is an incredible fighter.

Well once the distance is closed being shorter actually is a big advantage, and that is exactly what DC does in most fights, including last night.

isnt conor 74 inches reach

(3in cock though in pink gay shorts, confimed though)

DC looks like a guy that might fix your air conditioner, or deliver your mail. He also can fuck up most men on this planet. That rubs a lot of people the wrong way, that he doesn't look like a super hero. He is also black, and this is MMA fans we are talking about. He will never get proper credit from majority white MMA fanbase. It's not just salty Jones fans like some liars say. It's most MMA fans, period. The only 'fans' DC had were those using him as a pawn, because they hated Jones. They turned on him when he started fucking up their favs too.

He is a bully, stays in your face throwing bombs and grinding you out. Volkan was soundly outstruck too

Closing the distance is not a simple matter. The longer striker can simply back away / circle a couple inches and now he is out of your reach and you are in his striking zone. Even when you are inside the pocket it's tiring, you have to let your arms reset after throwing a barrage of punch, up against gravity, against a trained opponent who has his guard up so you are mostly punching arm. It's not like you are a machine that can punch constantly. You have theoretical knowledge but you don't know what its like to actually be in there doing it.

It's an extremely exhausting style. To fight like DC or Tyson does and to try to stay in the pocket and bob and weave to let your arms reset, that takes a whole lot of dexterity and conditioning. It is a style that's even more grueling than Sean Sherk's style where you are spamming takedowns and that is saying a lot.

Once your on the inside, you can do catastrophic damage w a shorter reach + clinch. See Fedor v Sylvia. That fight went exactly how DC likes to fight and kill. Go in there,in the guys face,no matter how big or strong, and control and abuse.

DC is a proper inside fighter, and has developed a skillset on how to get and stay inside.

It's not a coincidence he has a stiff jab that keeps taller fighters honest.

Its only more exhausting if it's not your style.

I personally was usually shorter by a couple inches and preferred being lower I felt less vulnerable, especially in tight.

You don't always have to press the action when your shorter, yoel Romero waits on the outside and times you stepping in so he's never chasing.

It's all about styles

DC's ability to get inside and initiate the clinch is impressive. He drew Stipe in and let him pressure, felt his power, found his pace and sat him the fuck down!

Not disrespecting Stipe, though not a fan the man deserves plenty of Respect (and Modelo)!

It is remarkable what he’s been able to do with his frame and height at (L)HW. Incredible fighter and athlete.

Exactly. Reach doesn’t matter if you fight them in a phone booth. DCs specialty.

He’s like Tyson. Short, compact and powerful as fuck. phenomenal at getting inside and amazing at inside fighting in general.
As you say that shit ain’t easy

Miocic has short arms. He should have used his kicks more.

That's not even a fair comparison. You are talking about Yoel's fight against Whittaker where they both have a 73 inch reach. Yoel can stay back because that is still not within Whittaker's jab range. Staying back like DC does against guys who have 6+ inch will only have him jabbed in the face for nothing. He basically has no safe zone at all when fighting a taller fighter. The only safe zone is if he was standing 3 yards back, and even then, the opponent can walk up cautiously and jab away, especially someone who has decent boxing like Stipe did. Cormier fights in the pocket because he has to and its his only chance, not because it's his preferred style.

Thats not true the safe zone is outside stipes reach, there's an invisible line where stipe can't reach DC and DC can't reach him whenever stipe trys to step in DC times that, and all of a sudden they meet in the middle.

Evander holyfeild was very good at this it's partially the reason him and Tyson kept clashing heads.

I was talking about yoels fight vs rockhold and a few other opponents have had large reach advantages over him

Whats even more impressive is that he is a wrestler with no striking experience before he started MMA at 30. Compare his striking to a similar background fighter like Brock, who looks like hes trying to catch butterflies when he throws punches.
