Why would you ever teach your dog to potty in your house??? They can learn to hold it and go outside, you do not need to transition. I taught my dog to potty outside in one week at age 8 weeks. If you teach them with potty pads then its confusing whether its ok to go inside.

Best thing about Maltese is that with a puppy cut on a full grown dog, they look like puppies.

Seriously tho, grooming costs for a Malti can get expensive. What you save on food, you end up spending at the groomers b/c their hair never stops growing. Otherwise, they end up looking like this:
