..a wave in front of you decides to turn around and hit you head on as you are riding another wave:

Yes he did lol. Looks like the tide was going back out and another wave came in and they collided and he was along for the ride at that point
 
First I would think to myself "The fuck am I doing riding a wave I don't surf!"....Then I'd say "Holy shit!"
 
Well i'd fly over the wave as that guy but more gracefully and I'd probably shit in that wave. That'd teach it!
 
That's pretty common (getting hit by a reverse wave, not getting dominated by it) if you're surfing on the inside (near the shore) in choppy waters. Waves go in, waves go out, sometimes choppy waters make them scarier. I usually surf on the outside though so this rarely happens

Just Newport and Huntington, when I really want to get into it, I go down to San onofre

I boogie boarded since I could swim and then surfed a whole lot as a teenager but now I only go MAYBE once every other month. It was more fun before my surfing buddies moved away :(
