Opinion What would it cost to have a world fire department, and would you support it?

Do you support the creation of the One World Fire Department?

Seriously I have little faith in any organization that would be funded and used by many countries. The UN and NATO have become so cumbersome that they are incredibly inefficient.

I'm sure it would eventually. All systems are. I don't think the solution is to not use systems though.

The only thing that ever worked even remotely is a system of checks and balances, with a built in revolution reset switch.

Every time I see people talking like this, I already know how it can be abused.

My bosses are always asking for more money for things and they over exaggerate the issues, so they get the money. The money goes to the contractors, and the contractors give a lot of that money back to us as "kickback" for choosing them to do the work. For example, the fire alarm system is dated, but not obsolete. My bosses scare the upper management, upper management gives out a cool million to do get the work done. The company that gets the contract knows they have to pay up in order for them to get chosen to do the work. A LOT of money goes to the bosses and it gets divided throughout the inner circle.

Regular people have no idea how corrupt government and unions are.

What a logistical nightmare. Terrible idea.

I would much rather support an execution force for people who start wild fires

I dont want the Chinese putting out "fires " in my neigborhood.

Fire fighting is how Crassus made his wealth.

Well, technically I guess extorted the owner to save the property or he let it burn down and then bought the ruins at a discount.

Sounds like a good idea.

"Let it burn" implies his men didnt start the fires. It was just a protection racket.

No. All for sharing resources with allies though. We could break off a few hundred service members and equipment to supplement the volunteers from established US fire departments that are assisting our ozzie friends. A permanent organization creates needless bureaucracy.

I am 100% in favour as long as it doesn't cost me anything. Provided it's all done with private funding, great. I feel I'm already paying too much compared to what I get back.

I mean I guess they could sell calendars to supplement the cost of the program.

Australia has just leased several large specialist aircraft to fight the fires we've known were coming for months.

The ability to retain and move specialist equipment already exists.

The issue in Australia is drought, increasing temprature, high winds and cost savings on forestry staff in charge of fire prevention (back burning).

Or basically Scomo thought it was a non issue.

If it was a rapid reaction force specifically to fight large fires in forests, jungles, savannashs then it doesn't sound like a bad idea. The Fire version of doctors without borders or the Red Cross.
