Opinion What will we learn when we see Trumps Tax Returns in 2019?

The new Congress will get his tax returns. No doubt about it. They don't even have to ask him. They can just ask the IRS to send them over.

I have trouble believing that there's anything too damning in them. They've been filed, and I suppose anything significantly crazy would have raised a red flag already. I don't really know how close returns are scrutinized though. It's just that with the magnifying glass on Trump, it's hard to imagine that someone hasn't looked at them and determined they're fine.

i am not so sure they will. It is one thing to simply obstruct while you hold the majority in the House. All they had to do was just not ask the treasury for the tax returns. And say No to Dems when they asked because they did not have the votes to run it through.

The only way Trump can prevent it is by litigating. And he would likely lose.

All seem likely, unfortunately I doubt the elected officials tasked with bringing these things to light , will follow up on any of it.

The tax returns in itself will not be nuclear level news. If they become public (or certain information is public) we may find out he has foreign investments (we know he has businesses around the world), taxable losses (not a reflection of net worth) and may have paid little or no taxes. We may learn about business dealings we didn't previously know about.

But the interesting part is how they are connected with the Mueller investigation. Do those returns support a case for other crimes or the case for impeachment? In other words, do they support the view that Trump has improper investments in Saudi Arabia or Russia? Proof of crimes would require additional facts outside of the returns. Unless of course the crimes are tax evasion!
