For me it's In Utero. Combines the stark punk rock of Bleach with the high quality songwriting of Nevermind. Clear production that's stripped down 100 proof. One other album in rock feels so raw and unadulterated and that's John's first solo album John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band.

Hard to not say Nevermind

However, my favorite Nirvana song is Pennyroyal Tea.

I didn't want to exclude it because then there would only be three choices. It was popular when it was released, so it is obviously worthy of being included...

Yeah, I like it. But it isn't a "studio album" :)

Anyways, Nevermind is obviously what made Nirvana Nirvana. None of the other two albums would have gained any recognition, were it not for Nevermind. They're both great in the lights of Nevermind, though.

I don't get the joke. At the time it was released, it was as good as original work to most of the public. It was primarily only nerds from Seattle who were familiar with the songs. Nirvana was breaking up at the time of its release, and they just put out a garbage release with a bunch of throw away tracks to satisfy their contract with the record company. As a surprise to those behind it's production it was wildly popular, and the rest is history. It was necessary to include it as an option.

It's a compilation of studio outtakes, singles and whatever. It's not an actual "studio album".

I don't get what you're not getting.

I acknowledged that. I don't get what you're not getting. It's really irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

No, it's not irrelevant. Nirvana released 3 studio albums, as in actual albums. Incesticide is not one of them.

Deal with it, Incesticide-fan. :D

Name a widely released original album, that included all of those songs, that I could list as an alternative. Not listing Incesticide means I would have to exclude many songs that were extremely popular at the time of their national release. Your distinction is totally irrelevant in this case.

Smells like was the shot heard round the world. Can't think of a single tune that upended an entirely industry like that.

Look what it did to this poor guy...

In Utero is a solid listen from front to back. Can't say that about Nevermind. Nevermind has a few good songs but In Utero is their Magnum Opus.

Aero Zeppelin and Aneurysm are great fucking songs regardless of album.

IMO re-releases and remasters usually suck, but I actually like 2013 remix of In Utero. Sounds kinda softer and more pleasant than the original.
