I mean from UFC 1-5
Did you like them?
What didn't you like about them?
What fights did you like?
Were you a fan of any of the fighters?
Any fun memories

At the time it was the coolest thing on the planet. Now it's shit.

It was amazing to watch when it went down, Royce Gracie the little guy beating the juice heads like Ken Shamrock.

Was a great time.

UFC now has become a bit repetitive though, fighters are becoming carbon copies of each other and are lacking creativity with their attacks.

It's interesting that in the beginning UFC was out to prove what art was the best, then the evolution took hold and fighters / gyms started to realize that had to be well rounded and good everywhere .....

But the question is.....should you be good at everything? or great at 1 or 2 things?

P.S: Never ever take the time to watch UFC 9: Shamrock Vs. Severn

I loved them at the time, 3 was the first one I watched, I still love them now.

It truly felt revolutionary; something new, unique and exciting.

Like seeing a pair of boobs in the flesh for the first time; and a shaven, glistening clitoris.

And I mean mma in general; Vale Tudo was also present and gave this feeling. One of my earliest memories is a Vale Tudo tournament;

A bloody Richard 'Red' Heard choking out Bret 'The Mangler' Floyd, preceded by 'The king of the streets' Marco Ruas battering the shit out of UFC 1 alternate winner Steve Jennum.

Sweet nostalgia

I liked the fact that the fighters weren't cross trained in the beginning. You had a guy who was well versed in one discipline vs. a guy who was well versed in another discipline. Then you put them in a cage with minimal rules and got to see whose discipline was actually the most practical in a "real fight" scenario. I always found that aspect really intriguing.

Beg my pardon, Ufc 3 winner Steve Jennum

Compared to today they were a joke you usually had mix matched guys and they were fighting 50lbs apart teeth flying out it was pretty brutal to be honest I can definitely see why it was banned from cable TV at the time. Bare knuckle entertainment just won't work in this society.

Real life Boodsport.

Today MMA is a sport and while the idea of competing is nerve-racking, the idea of entering the cage back then was life threateningly terrifying. It was something you saw in movies, not real life. Part of the reason those old fighters like Shamrock, Gracie, Tank, etc seem kinda crazy, is because they were. 95% of the guys competing today never would have even tried back then. It was unknown territory.

I miss the feel of the old UFCs. You never knew what you were going to see happen you just knew it was going to be brutal and someone was getting finished. People went to finish the fight back then. Now they train to win the draw.

It should be required watching for entry level fans. It will make you respect the ground game and the value of being multidimensional.

I remember walking into the video shop so many times trying to rent them and leaving disappointed, ( i remember the tape had 1,2 and 3 on it) when I finally got to rent them I dont think ive ever been so genuinely excited to have rented a video. Good times, simpler times!

lol. I remember exactly where they were in the in video store. Right beside "Faces of Death".

if you liked the old UFCs you will LOVE this old school fight.

it was exciting and fun, so many cool moments. Keith Hackney punching Joe Son's nuts to death. Jon Hess beating Andy Anderson with the most skilled top level MMA striking clinic ever witnessed haha. Emmanuel yarbrough pushing Hackney out of the octagon and the door broke. Pat Smith beating a guy so bad and the ref not stopping it. so many great memories.

Holy shit! I remember the video was near the softcore porn at my local shop

Lol I don't get where people are coming from saying it's shit. It's fucking amazing and a novel part of cultural history. If you can't appreciate what happened then you don't understand what it was like to be alive in the era of Kung Fu movies and McDojo's at the strip malls
