With the rest of the main card? I understand Mcgregor is the biggest star in the game but as others said it’s a perfect opportunity to showcase good talent as millions of casuals we’re watching. That co main event was pathetic and an embarrassment too Mma and UFC. No one wanted too see that fight and they have the audacity to make it a co main event. Holm and Raquel are a first slot on a fight night card at best

It was a terrible card but let's be honest nobody would be talking about anything but the conor fight today anyways even if it was stacked

true they would still talk about Mcgregor but let’s say for example they had like a till vs Whittaker or like marlon vs yan, you know their would most likely be a finish but even if there wasn’t it would be a high level exciting back and forth fight

The fight was huge and trending everywhere. Obviously it was a huge success. Their thinking is correct.

Carlton Marty Usman is the WW champion show some Respeckupload_2020-1-19_18-45-42.jpeg

Shoulda packed the card with contender series fighters win by finish get a contract

What was ufc thinking?

Dana was walking on thin ice trying to lure Conor back and the only way he could afford him with lowered risk was to stack a PPV card with names for casuals like Pettis and Holm and no names who command very low salaries. January 19th and only 1 event with the biggest star in MMA. Dana started 2020 on top because he was very conservative.

People will buy PPV just to watch Conor fight. There was no reason to waste good fights on this one.

Agreed, its true Conor will sell regardless of the rest of the card but its shortsighted. Its missing out on an opportunity to get casuals who only tune into Conor fights more interested in UFC and increase the chances some of them might purchase some non-Conor cards in the future. UFC 189 is the template they should follow, they should stack the card with good entertaining fighters, i.e. good strikers, keep the crotch sniffers and wmma to a minimum.

The UFC was following the boxing template for booking UFC 246

No one cares about anything but the main event in boxing

I\ll never understand putting Kelleher/Ode on the main card over Super Soddiq/Fili. Or any WMMA match on a fight card.

I’ve said this 27261515374848 times on here. The consumer has the power. If you don’t buy any cards that aren’t stacked, that will force them to put all their stars on one card.

ive also said, they should do a Friday/Saturday night fights where they showcase fighters who normally wouldn’t be televised.
This would generate interest with people who don’t watch MMA on a regular basis. It will give some popularity to fighters who never get recognition, therefore giving some prestige to them and convincing casuals to purchase PPV events to see fighters that they recognize.
It will also be a great opportunity to advertise upcoming PPV events

Says a lot about how cheap the UFC is and what they think about their fan base.

Loved the Conor fight but the rest were mediocre at best. The women's fights are always
boring so no surprise there.

What was the UFC thinking when they hired Mike Dolce for UFC Fit

Putting a couple good fights on this card wouldn’t have impacted the PPV numbers at all. Conor sells on his own.

Now those fights are saved up to create stacked cards later on in the year.

What’s so difficult to understand?
