Where the storyline for the several (sometimes up to a year) preceding months leading up to it make it completely clear who was going to win?

The first two that come to mind are both Cena victories. WM 29 literally everyone and their grandparents knew Cena was gonna win. Ever since the year prior when Rock won, they immediately started building up the redemption storyline and never let go at all. The other is WM 23 when HBK replaced HHH for him to beat. He was supposed to beat HHH two years in a row (that or build it to a trilogy) but them replacing him with HBK at the last second made it 100% obvious Cena was winning.

Ha, I was just thinking that. I was way more into WCW than WWF in early 98 but I'd imagine that to the WWF fans it was plain as day Austin was going over there.

The actual main event of that card may have been the opposite of the threads' question, the biggest shock/surprise winner.

Benoit going over at WM 20 was the same way. Vince miraculously did what was best for business despite all his biases.

If they keep that trend of a deserving underdog winning the main event on every first WM of the decade, it makes me wonder who's going over at WM 40; Cesaro? Finn Balor? Dolph Ziggler? Sami Zayne? Bron Brekker? or maybe someone who's not even on the roster yet

    WM 14 + WM 15

    Both were too predictable.

    Disagree
They did such a great job with the build up to Wrestlemania III that the outcome was not a 100% set in stone guaranteed fact in most peoples minds
People were genuinely curious about what was gonna hapoen which is why it did the numbers it did and got the mainstream crossover buzz that it did

Jericho/Triple H. Jericho had been booked as an absolute fluke champion the entire time and Triple H as the monster conquering babyface. Never any doubt

That's funny to even think about today, Jericho as the big heel, HHH as the big face. I guess people do kinda like HHH for what he did NXT but still, and the way people sing Judas and just love everything Jericho does even though he's fat and washed up.

The first undisputed champion in the history of our great sport was picking up DOG POOP for that filthy, dirty, disgusting, brutal, skanky, bottom-feeding, trash bag HO Stephanie McMahon. Ya hate to see it.

Lawrence Taylor over Bam Bam Bigelow Wrestlemania 11, no way he was coming into lose

He performed great as well, it was a solid match and surprising good, Wrestlemania 11 was one of the worst and so weak with many bad matches, but Lawrence Taylor actually was good and everyone will complain he was the main event.... but I swear his match with Bigelow was better than the other matches that night
