This will probably get dumped but I'm asking conservatives and liberals what should we do. It seems like as a people we have both parties eating away at our freedoms and privacy. Slowly eroding our god given liberties and human decency.

Republicans want to limit who we can marry, what we can put in our bodies, and seek a strong intelligence presence that is given alot of freedom.

Democrats want to limit what guns we can have and make people pay for the Constitutionally given right to have a gun, they seek to unfairly tax those %wise who simply make more money.

Both sides seem to be fine with a increasingly powerful and dangerous executive branch that is immune from prosecution.

The increasingly Bi-polar American populace seems unable or simply unwilling to call their own party out for these actions. It's just getting more and more extreme.

What do we do?

One of the major problems leading to the breakdown of society is that we have far too many opinions dictating life choices and not enough truth mandating them.

First of all, it's ok to debate and battle it out over ideas and politics.

We will never agree, but at the end of the day, we've gotta leave that behind, show respect to each other.

It's sorta like sometimes when you're fighting with your wife.

Just keep looking out for number one and don't step in number two. Pretty simple really.

I mean the parties are doing more and more extreme things.

There's nothing we can do, other than go back in time and elect Ron Paul.

Tell the Democrats to quit whining about losing the election.

I'm taking up knitting.

I'd argue the flip side of the coin. Each issue you made, you aren't mentioning the opposite side is fighting to protect it and usually that side is finding more success. Let's go through the list:
Who we can marry- Supreme Court legalized gay marriage and the GOP has backed down on the issue
What we can put in our bodies- marijuana is trending state by state to legislation. Harder drugs probably not but there are far stronger health and crime arguments for something like meth.
Strong intelligence presence- unfortunately, I think this is true and enough people are willing to be okay with it, especially after an attack. I'd also say the majority of both parties do this, even though the GOP parades it more

Limit guns we can have- it's been very counter productive. gun sales were at all time highs when rhetoric was highest they would take guns away and now are at lows since there's no fear trump would do it. Gun rights have been doing fine.
Unfair taxation- that's a stretch. Most countries recongize a progressive tax system cause it works well. Obviously one can become too progressive but that's all for another debate.

Executive branch powers- I think trump entering office has shown the brilliance of our system with balance of powers. Though I think the courts are overreaching, the three groups are fighting amoungst each other which is good for the average citizen if you worry about a dictatorship or power grabs.

I think the populace is more of the problem as it's become far more polarized. Fortunately from the examples you posed, it looks like the polarization has just been useful in pushing for more thing to be given to us or more protections for current rights minus the surveillance but as I've said, not enough of the country seems to protest that issue.

Excellent point to the OP, I'm in agreement.

I guess the TS, and myself, just have hit a saturation point with what's being reported and discussed by not only MSM but also social media.

I'd like once to get a report on actual compromise on bills that help at least a significant portion of the middle class in this country
-This might already be occurring, but I'd like it reported with detail... just so the conversation can be less of a debate and more amicable... seems even the public has taken political stances to the extremes with respects to its impacts on their individual and daily lives.

cheers

I'd agree the media does focus on doom and gloom far more than the good going on, especially if the good was showing the opposing side wasn't Satan and just a disagreement in viewpoints. Politics can look a lot more boring if you don't turn it into good guys vs bad guys.

I can understand his other and other worry though. I get in phases of worry over our country but I usually take a break from news for awhile when that occurs to realize I was too glued to it.

Do crocheting instead. My ex crocheted me a king size blanket and I still have it today. Great skill and easier.
Problem: I'm too sissy liberal to use needles, and I stay away from hooks.
Also, the conservative side of me doesn't like the effeminate public image of such hobbies, and the anarchist in me is searching for a way to make it edgy.
I'm a mess

You should've heard my ex talk politics. Your here her on some social issues and think complete lib and then you'd here a rant about lazy people taking her money in taxes and I'd always bust out laughing. I never usually heard that mix of views in an individual.

I confess that listening to me, others might feel I'm divided politically
