sup guys

what should you do when the opponent you're in mount and your opponent turns on his side. i found that its not quite enough to get his back.

so what should u do when

opponnets on his side in your

1. mount
2. side control

in side control i noticed theres a choke that seems kinda similar to an arm triangle form but it seems more like a crank (looks like it) hes on his side and u get his arm across and squeeze.

i alway wanna try to get his back but like i said its not quite enough to get unto his back (or i just dont how to properly)
thanks

Disclaimer: I am a noobish white belt.

From mount I try to go for a bow and arrow choke. If they get half guard I'll try to take the back.

From side control maybe you are thinking of the Brabo/D'arce? I can't say opponent on their side happens much from side control to me but you should be able to drive them flat again if they are facing into you or take an underhook if they are facing away. Going to north south always seems like a good option if side control is getting precarious.

If he turns on his side, just adjust your mount to one leg up (we call this side mount). You can do an a gift wrap choke from there, which is what I think you are describing, or take an armbar would be the most obvious thing.

Also, [insert standard note about getting some real training].

If they are turning away from you (which more advanced guys will never do), then you have to slide a knee under their upper back to trap them there and keep their back exposed. Then you try your best to get a seat belt grip and roll them over your knee to take their back.

You can cradle him up! It's the wrestling move where you lock your hands and get him in a cradle position. Trust me the guy will try to get out of the move and in the process get himself tired. It's not a pleasant position to be stuck in nor is the banana split.

Side mount, usually fairly easy to catch armbars from there.

thanks guys all the responses are helpful as heck. anymore answers on this would be awesome

i know armbar is an apparent, but what if the dude acts stubborn and has his elbows in snug and hands either real close (and super strong so its hard to make his arm come with) or constantly locking his hands together?

reach an arm around his head and trap him in a "gift wrap". look it up on youtube.

This is what I do, though I will look for the bow and arrow, wing choke, or armbar from the side mount. If I can't work any of those successfully I look to advance position and take the back. But my back control sucks balls so from there it's pretty much a short road to the bottom game again.

One thing about side mount... Your foot that is on the mat should be flat on the mat and tucked into his hip. Angle your foot so your toes are pointed down towards his feet. Essentially you heel is locked into his hip and the top/outside of your foot is along his thigh. This will prevent some movement from his bottom leg and limit his ability to hip escape forward to flatten back down.
Like Brollikk said, the other leg you are sitting on your shin and foot like you are in half seiza, knee tucked up behind his head.

from mount if they go on their side i switch to seated mount and start attacking.

from side control i just try to establish seatbelt grip once they turn on their side, if you get it you can take the back, if i dont get seatbelt i try to work a bow and arrow.

by side control do u mean the regular side control, or when hes on his side?

also, when u say put ur feet flat. u mean not on the balls of my feet right?

I mean the side mount/triple attack/sitting on his side situation that Brollikk and armtriangle described.

And yeah, flat is flat.

1. Technical/'side' mount as shown by other posters. Block his top shoulder with your chest so he can't turn flat again, seatbelt, take the back.

2. If he's turning into you from side control, knee on belly or spin to the other side. If he's turning away, just take the back.

Gotta change your legs with one up and one down, with one knee by his head, and other foot close to his belt/belly. That's called the modified mount, or side mount. Otherwise he can elbow escape much easier if you don't transition to that position when he turns. Or when he turns he might roll you over if you try to stay in full mount with your knees on the ground. From the modified or side mount many options are available, such as chokes, armbars, take the back, twisting arm control. It's all good. If he turns to his side dont try to stop him... take the gift.

Mount to small package. You can really work a game from small package of you have good balance and can keep transitioning from SP to mount and back depending on how active they are from the bottom.

Then arm locks and back takes will open up.

if your opponent can turn away from you when you've got side control, you should work on your pressure.

tops is for crushing.

from mount, i just recently started giftwrapping if they get on their side. normally, i just try to move as far north as possible and start trying to pull arms out. from side control, if they turn away from me, i like to work a bow and arrow or sit them up for a possible back take. if they turn in, i like to circle around and do the same.
