Do nothing and hope Romero tires himself out?

Is it the new camp? Luke was always like a glass cannon, but this time he was just glass.

His game plan was the same it always is - fight tall and keep him on the outside.

Kick and jab it looks like. The leg kicks were working, but he stopped using them in the second round for some reason.

Dance on the outside and try to win a point game. Dont know why he stopped kicking though.

Luke's gameplay was to control the distance with the most boring and predictable standup imaginable. Jab, jab, low leg kick ... jab, jab, low leg kick.

In the end he got what he deserved.

Luke hurt his leg after Romero started checking those leg kicks. You could see the blood coming out of his leg, and the stumble exactly when it happened. Romero’s defense was on point.

Please tell me you guy don't need this explained to you....

show up and get paid.

He has some big holes in his striking.

If he's going to use distance as a strategy then he needs to learn to move laterally instead of backing straight up and getting trapped against the cage.

The fact that Romero is a southpaw closed off the power kick to the gut. The stance totally fucked up Rockhold's game, leading him to rely on jabs (!) as his primary weapon.

He stopped kicking after a while so it just became 'jab, jab, run away from crazy windmill punches'.

This. I think they wanted to get Yoel into the later rounds, thinking Luke would have his best chances then...which is probably true. Problem with that game plan-surviving till the later rounds. He didn't.

It almost seemed like...his striking regressed?
Nope hes always been this bad
With leg kicks checked painfully he was forced to rely more on his boxing which bisping exposed as woeful

Im beggining to think his one real standout strength ie dominating top control may be partly due to wrecking peooles legs and mid sections with kicks first making moving stiff

It's fine. He'll sit out a year, fight someone in their UFC debut and half of Sherdog will claim he's the best MW in the world. Lol.

Luke's typically had a very diverse striking arsenal though, if you watch his early strikeforce fights. But as he progressed, he seemed to more so rely on his hook, jab, and straight (usually in singles) and then his body kick. The body kick is so good, but I didn't think his leg kicks were the most effective. He got checked over and over because he was doing the ultimate error in throwing single leg kicks and following a jab.

When I saw how rudimentary his offense look, I knew Romero was going to catch him.
